Guest monkeyjabber Posted February 9, 2005 Report Posted February 9, 2005 At 35 Mb the dictionary file is absolutely enormous! I know its free, but isn't there some way of compressing it? Lextionary manages to do the same thing (144,308 entries) with just 9 Mb.
Guest xenophobe Posted February 9, 2005 Report Posted February 9, 2005 It will not work with my Audiovox SMT 5600. It doesn't matter where I install to, the phone or my storage card, at every search it asks to locate the dictionary file, then restarts... I type in a word to search for... same thing.

Lextionary manages to do the same thing (144,308 entries) with just 9 Mb. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Features on the two products are not the same, so you'll have to make your own decision and work out if there are any trade-offs. There are actually many many alternative dictionaries, but if I thought that the market were already flooded with top quality, totally free dictionary/thesaurus's, why do you think I would write ~yet another~ dictionary/thesaurus? I originally built WordNetCE, WordNetCE-SP, WordNetASPNet and WordNetDT for myself, so I could have all the features of a commercial product on the platforms I use and add more features as I see fit. I hope others can get the same good experience from my products as I do myself. Feel free to offer more suggestions my site forums at http://www.ebswift.com/Forum. I type in a word to search for... same thing. I haven't had any reports of this for the Smartphone version, but there's usually a good reason why this happens. Generally, it is because a higher path than the dict folder was copied (i.e. the 2.0 folder inside the WordNet folder), and that is the folder people try to point to. When you locate the dictionary, ensure you point to the 'dict' folder you copied according to the instructions. To verify it's the right folder, ensure it contains dictionary-looking files such as noun.dat etc. etc. I will double-check on my O2 Smartphone again tonight to make sure I didn't leave something amiss in packaging, but in the meantime please check according to my suggestion above. I don't package the dictionary with the installation because bandwidth would become astronomical, and with a negative-income site I'd find it pretty hard to justify the extra cost. In the meantime I'll try to make installation as painless as possible given what I've got. Edited February 27, 2005 by ebswift
Guest xenophobe Posted February 13, 2005 Report Posted February 13, 2005 Oh wow... it was late, I didn't have the dictionary file loaded, only the front end. Sorry.
Guest jlegasto Posted April 19, 2005 Report Posted April 19, 2005 I have the dictionary installed in my desktop and it is superb!!! I love it! However, I seem to have problems with the installation on my MPX200 smartphone. When the phone acknowledges a successful installation, I am not able to run the program since the software looks for some components that do not allegedly exist on the phone. I tried to install it according to your instructions, but to no avail. I would like to use this helpful software on my SP... any assistance would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

Well, in regards to the missing components, be aware that WordNetCE-SP is for Smartphone 2003+ phones only (it requires the .Net Framework). If you are using a compatible phone, then you also need to have the dictionary files copied from your PC to a storage card on your phone as per the instructions on the WordNetCE-SP home page. If you have no luck, contact me using the email link at the bottom of each page on my site and we'll sort through it from there. Thankyou!

Thanks in advance. :) Rprap If you're running Windows Mobile you'll need to install WordNetCE from here: http://www.ebswift.com/PocketPC/WordNet/ If you're running a smartphone operating system, then stick with WordNetCE-SP. If you are getting a 0 byte download you will need to try downloading again - if it still turns up as 0 bytes, send me an email using the email contact form on my site and I'll send you an installer. I'm fairly confident you will have no problems with WordNetCE on WM5, so let us know how it goes.
