Guest niceguymr Posted February 8, 2005 Report Posted February 8, 2005 (edited) OK... So I bought an unlocked Cingular phone so that I can use my ATT SIM card in it and hopefully no problem... 1) FIXED Backlight on display never turns off, even with the setting right, nor on the front display. The only display that will time out is the keyboard backlights. 2) You can't access the web using a Cingular UNLOCKED phone with an ATT SIM card. To acess the web, you'll need to switch over to cingular. Two Bottom Line Problems if using an ATT SIM Card on a Cingular UNLOCKED phone. 1) Screens dont shut off. 2) Internet doesn't work on Cingular MPX220 with an ATT SIM Card. EDITED TO ADD: The screen problem seemed to have been resolved simply by restarting the phone. I don't know what caused it in the first place, and I hope it doesn't become a recurring problem... nonetheless, it's fixed. I spoke to Cingular and they told me that I won't be able to access the web with their phone and an AT&T SIM card. According to the tech support person I spoke with, they said that this is a slight incompatibility with the MPX220 and the AT&T SIM which is why AT&T never sold the phone with their brand name on it. If anyone has gotten their CINGULAR BRANDED phone to surf the web using an AT&T sim card, please let me know because I'm about to go to migrate over to Cingular if I don't get it to work. Thanks everyone. Edited February 8, 2005 by niceguymr
Guest McHale Posted February 8, 2005 Report Posted February 8, 2005 1. No idea on this one. Doesn't do that on mine. What FW are you running? If you're using the latest, do a hard reset and that should fix it. 2. You need to configure it. It will work with ANY settings once you configure it properly... -Mc

I'm just a non tech savy person and have no idea how to implement what you're saying. I know I have the revised latest FW b/c it's got that orange sticker on the box and there's no problems with the volume and other stuff. How do I do a hard reset? Will I lose anything in the process? When you say configure, if you mean changing the settings so that the screen 'times out' after so many minutes, then I've already got it configured correctly. Believe me, it's set right, but it's not doing what it's supposed to do. I appreciate any help I can get on this. I would hate to have to go activate this on the cingular nextwork.
Guest organic Posted February 9, 2005 Report Posted February 9, 2005 http://supportattws.primus.com/aws/knowled...e/ATTW8373.html Cingular is clueless, or trying to trick you into switching over. This worked flawlessly for me; I now have internet access and MMS capabilities (although that's another configuration page, but on the same site). And yes, I have an unlocked, Cingular-branded MPx220. PS- I know those instructions are for the MPx200, but everything works the same way. I'm really struggling here.
