Guest slinkey Posted February 8, 2005 Report Posted February 8, 2005 hi everyone. i'm having difficulty with the email on my spv c500. i use the pop and smtp servers to download and send my gmail emails-no problem, but if i have a couple of emails in my inbox-either read or unread, then i connect to the internet again to check emails-the emails all get deleted-even if there aren't any new emails to replace them. how can i stop this really annoying thing? as at the moment i can only hang onto an email until the next time i connect - and then it becomes automatically deleted. please help!!!!! thanks for your time.
Guest chucky.egg Posted February 10, 2005 Report Posted February 10, 2005 If you are downloading emails elsewhere (at your PC for example) and your mail client there is set to remove them after x days they will be removed from the POP box, and then from your phone when it syncs You might also have the mailbox on your phone set to only download emails from the last x days (but I think that option is only on IMAP not on POP, so it might not apply to you)
Guest slinkey Posted February 14, 2005 Report Posted February 14, 2005 hi, thanks for the help but i only check emails on line from a computer rather than download them and i don't delete them either. i have got that thing of only downloading today's messages because i thought that otherwise i would keep downloading the same emails--is that true? i'm using pop3 by the way. it's actually starting to get a bit annoying, i asked orange (email) and they said to give them a ring but as i now live in italy they'd charge me for the call and it'd cost a bomb!
Guest Confucious Posted February 15, 2005 Report Posted February 15, 2005 hi, thanks for the help but i only check emails on line from a computer rather than download them and i don't delete them either. i have got that thing of only downloading today's messages because i thought that otherwise i would keep downloading the same emails--is that true? i'm using pop3 by the way. it's actually starting to get a bit annoying, i asked orange (email) and they said to give them a ring but as i now live in italy they'd charge me for the call and it'd cost a bomb! Once you've checked the emails via outlook they no longer appear in your email account but should appear under Outrlook email - otherwise you would have a duplication. Is this the problem?
Guest slinkey Posted February 16, 2005 Report Posted February 16, 2005 hi confucious, on the phone i don't have any messages recorded under outlook email-in box, outbox, draft--nothing! did you mean outlook on the computer or on my phone? as the computer i use is a work one i don't want to sync my emails to it but rather have them permenantly on my phone (until i decide to get rid of them). when i send/recieve emails it says 1 of 18, 2 of 18 etc and then at the end when it disconnects it cancels all emails from my inbox that i had previously downloaded. is it possible to keep them on my phone? do i have to manually transfer them from my email account (on the phone) to the outlook email (if that's even possible) or is there a setting i need to change? i don't mind having duplications, but am getting annoyed about losing emails-especially as i'm only able to get to the computer a couple of times a week so really can't afford to lose these emails from my phone as they're needed for work. thanks very much for your help confucious. slinkey.
Guest Confucious Posted February 16, 2005 Report Posted February 16, 2005 AFAIK there is no way to keep them on your phone. The idea is that you sync with your computer so they will either be in the outlook inbox on your phone or the POP3 inbox on your phone, once you view them in Outlook it "assumes" (I know -you should never assume ANYTHING) that you will sync and so still have them. I do not know of a way arround this, sorry.
Guest chucky.egg Posted February 16, 2005 Report Posted February 16, 2005 Er, I'm getting confused now! If you are using Outlook to download your emails, rather than viewing them online through some sort of Webmail thingy, then you can tell Outlook not to deleted emails from the server. It's in the advanced settings of the mail account in Outlook. There's an option "delete from the server after x days", but if you un-tick the box it doesn't delete them at all.
Guest scott2eyes Posted February 16, 2005 Report Posted February 16, 2005 i have got that thing of only downloading today's messages because i thought that otherwise i would keep downloading the same emails--is that true? What might be happening is when you're synchronising your emails, it's deleting anything over a day old because of this rule. I would guess that if you log on to Gmail on a PC, you'll find that your mails are still on the server. (I don't use Gmail, so I'm not sure, but that's the way my orange.net and hotmail addresses work.)
Guest slinkey Posted February 16, 2005 Report Posted February 16, 2005 the emails aren't being deleted from the server, if i log on to gmail i've still got the emails there. i don't use outlook (on the computer) for emails though, i download them onto my phone using the pop/smtp thing. the problem is that being out of the office all day i need to check my emails (via phone) every hour or so and each time i do so i lose all previously downloaded emails (from my phone but not from my gmail account on line)-even if i check for emails after only 5 minutes, the emails downloaded 5 minutes before will vannish! is it possible to create a new folder for emails on my phone-where it's already got inbox, sent mail, draft etc then i could transfer all emails into that folder to keep them safe because if i move a downloaded email from inbox to sent mail then it won't get rid of it. has anyone else tried it-is it possible?
Guest chucky.egg Posted February 16, 2005 Report Posted February 16, 2005 So do you actually read your emails on a PC/Mac? If so what do you use to view the message? (is it an email client, or an online webmail type service?) Also... try posting the mail accounts settings from your phone and we might be able to see what's wrong.
Guest slinkey Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 if and when i chech emails on the computer i have to go online as it's a web based email-i don't download them onto the computer using outlook or other-if they're downloaded it's to the phone, when using the computer i check them online. what account settings do you mean? the pop server and all that? i don't seem to have a problem either sending or recieving emails-just hanging onto them once i've already got them on the phone!!
Guest luvbigg04 Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 PLEASE! HOW THE F8CK, DID U GET THE EMAIL TO WORK???? i KEEP GETTING CONNECTING MESSAGES, IF I DISCONNECT IT DOESN'T. THIS PHONE IS RUBBISH, BUT THEN WHAT ELSE WOULD YOU EXPECT FROM MICROSOFT. PIECE OF F*CKING SH8 I'M SENDING MINE BACK TO ORANGE, I DON'T CARE IF IT WAS FREE!
Guest Confucious Posted February 18, 2005 Report Posted February 18, 2005 Stop shouting, send your phone back and go back to your N*kia. Why ask how to get it working when you are sending your phone back? Do you expect people to help when you don't want to listen?
Guest luvbigg04 Posted February 18, 2005 Report Posted February 18, 2005 Aplogies for shouting! I was angry. Orange have admitted thre is a problem, and I HAVE to clear the ROM each time I connect. Their website is ou of date, and basically the phone doesn't work properly. This makes me mad because not only have I got to re learn how to use a badword phone, but it doesn't help when it doesn't work.
Guest PayableOnDeath Posted February 18, 2005 Report Posted February 18, 2005 slinkey do the emails on phone after you have looked at them on a pc? it could be that when you look at them on the pc it marks them as been read on the gmail therefore the phone wont download them I dont have Gmail so cant do any testing on it  luvbigg04 have you made sure that you email and gprs settings are correct? I know on mine sometimes it will take a minute or so to connect and download email
Guest Confucious Posted February 18, 2005 Report Posted February 18, 2005 luvbigg04 What exactly is the problem? What type of email account is it? What problem do Orange admit too? I check 2 POP3 accounts and my hotmail account regularly with no problems. I also occasionally check my GMail account and Orange account but as I don't use these much (if at all) I don't check them very often. Occasionally I will have a problem connecting but this is by far the exception rather than the rule and usually if I try again it connects with no problem.

PIECE OF F*CKING SH8 I'M SENDING MINE BACK TO ORANGE, I DON'T CARE IF IT WAS FREE! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> luvbigg04 what network are you with? obviously you got the phone from orange but are you still using them or have you unblocked your phone and are using a different network? it sounds as though you just need to have a look at your gprs settings, there's a whole list for gprs settings on this site for just abut every network provider under the sun so i'm pretty sure we can sort that out. also which email provider do you use?----a stupid question but areyou sure it's one that allows you to access your emails with a pop server? ones like yahoo for example expect you to pay for this privalige whereas others (hotmail gmail etc) are happy to let you do it for free.
Guest tsutton Posted February 22, 2005 Report Posted February 22, 2005 if and when i chech emails on the computer i have to go online as it's a web based email-i don't download them onto the computer using outlook or other-if they're downloaded it's to the phone, when using the computer i check them online. If I understand how this works... if you go to gmail webite and read the e-mail, it will be marked as read. Therefore I don't think it will be downloaded to your phone. Try marking it as unread and see if it's any help?

This makes me mad because not only have I got to re learn how to use a badword phone, but it doesn't help when it doesn't work. Calm down. Relax. Take deep breath. The phone is not faulty. I and many other people can get this to work. if it doesn't work, it's ALWAYS down to user settings and you need to double check the settings. If you want to use gmail on your phone, follow this simple steps pop.gmail.com:995 SSL (checked) smtp.gmail.com:587 SSL (checked) Username: [email protected] (must use full email address) Password: Now, it still won't work. You need to connect your phone to your PC and check the Gmail using the ActiveSync passthrough. Once you did that, the phone will complain something about invalid certificate. Just say you want to "continue" and ignore that message. Once you did that, you should be able to download your email. After this is done, from now on you can connect to gmail with GPRS. Does this help?
