MPX220 USB Modem +HOW

Recommended Posts

I got few questions regarding the functionality of MPX220 as a modem.

1) Does MPX220 usb modem function same as a regular PCI modem on my computer?

2) Is MPX220 a Fax Modem?

3) Can I connect MPX220 to a 56k ISP to use Internet remotely from my Laptop? ( w/o GPRS )

I successfully installed the modem driver on windows, and passed the query test, but I fail dialing a local call from my computer nor able to add the modem as a fax in Windows "Printer and Fax". Can someone with experience please help? Thank You!

I read on the net, that mpx220 doesn't support the Fax protocol. Is that true? Anyone?

I don't know how, or if it's even possible to use your phone as a dial up modem. That would eat your minutes up anyways. The modem feature I've used is the data connection through gprs. A good explanation on the way to set that up is in the thread towards the top of the page called "how to set up internet over gprs..." It won't eat up your minutes but it will eat up your data allowance so unless you have the unlimited data package be weary of how much you use that or you might get a monster bill.

So the usb modem driver is for GPRS only? Anyone tested out the modem on windows?

Yea, I notice GPRS is not exactly price friendly. (haha)

I did the gprs thing with my laptop last weekend and it worked fine. I'm running windows xp. It was a far cry from my cable connection but it was more than fine for talking through aim and checking email. I assume the drivers you're talking about are the ones that come on the cd. Those are the drivers you have to install to set the gprs modem connection up on a home computer. And speaking of pricey gprs, atleast with the mpx the unlimited package is only 20 bucks. Yesterday I found out that for a treo it's 40 bucks, and it doesn't come with text or media messages. sucks for PDAs
