ROM upgrade gone wrong?

Just needed some advice - upgraded the ROM on my imate SP2 which I got from the clubimate site (settings/about now says it's running SP2003 v4.20.0) and SMS has somehow gotten all messed up.

The SMS folders now have two Outbox folders for some reason and nothing seems to be what it's supposed to be. When you go into Deleted Items the header says Sent Items even though the SMS in there are the deleted ones, and when you get back to the folders it says you've come out of Sent...when you go into Drafts, it looks like drafts but the header is Deleted, and the bottom soft key activates Restore, there is no way to edit then send the draft sms, and then back into folders and you're now in Deleted...Inbox seems fine, header is SMS, back in folders it's still Inbox...the first Outbox has the header Inbox, and back in folders you end up in Inbox...the second Outbox has header Outbox, and in folders you're back to the second Outbox...Sent Items has the header Outbox, and back in folders you end in the first Outbox?!?!?!? For some reason it still sends and receives sms, just everything is all over the place and no draft editing available.

I thought it may have been because I used Sprite Backup when I loaded the new ROM to capture wallpapers, settings, GPRS/WAP, etc, but have reloaded ROM a few times and the folders are still all screwed up. Also, the same thing happened when I loaded the ROM upgrade on another imate SP2 without using Sprite.

Was hoping someone knew how I could get this to work - finally got everything else set up with apps etc so was hoping to avoid a reset if possible...any replacement SMS apps? Can I go into any particular files and clean things up at all? Is it possible to download only the SMS/Email app (assume no as it's part of the OS but asking anyway)? Any help would be great.

So you're trying to update the ROM without doing a full reset first?

Perhaps enough things changed between your old version and the new one that won't let you restore your old rom backup to the new one, even if it is just your non-system stuff... I would be surprised if you could...

Nope - did a full reset...in all the times I've had nothing left on the phone after the upgrade went through - like taking the phone out of the box for the first time.

Was sending a text this morning and the T9 was all screwy so am thinking somehow the database might have gotten corrupted either in the instal, or it's just a glitch in the imate upgrade. I actually think it might be in the upgrade cos the cursor actions are a little off (moving right sometimes adds a space instead of moving the cursor, and all the times I've reloaded the ROM it's done this), words come out odd (now "thought" keeps coming up as "th6thit" for some reason, even if i manually type "thought" like a custom word, next time I writ it it's still mispelled).

Everything else seems fine, just the SMS app is playing up. Remembering that the SMS had the same quirks before I used Sprite makes me believe that it's a glitch in the upgrade so not seeing much point in reloading ROM again. Do you know if it's possible just to reload the tmail.exe? Is it only possible to instal the imate version of SP2003 or can I use another one (O2 make what's essentially the same phone, just rebadged)?
