Guest En_croute Posted February 9, 2005 Report Posted February 9, 2005 (edited) I'm currently with Orange (Nokia 6600), and with over 1000 Outlook synced contacts, it's too slow (13 seconds to "Add Recipient" to an SMS). It only uses 60% of the memory, but 50% in contacts. So smartphone it is - About to get the MDA Compact, on T-Mobile, thanks to scancom.co.uk pricing, but thought I'd just ask about the MDA in comparison to the Orange C500. Does the lack of keys take a while to get used to ? Being so big, does the screen get scratched easily ? With the new ROM upgrade - is the camera usable now ? Can it link with Lotus Notes - we might be migrating in 2005 ( Why, why, why) Anyone tried a wiFi card for home browsing - Would this work in a C500 ? edit: And it does support T9 doesn't it ? Cheers En_croute London, UK Edited February 9, 2005 by En_croute

Cheers En_croute London, UK <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Does the lack of keys take a while to get used to ? For me yes, i've never owned PDA phone before, only smartphones, and PDAs. Being so big, does the screen get scratched easily ? Not so far, but i always keep it in its case when i'm not using it. With the new ROM upgrade - is the camera usable now ? No! Daylight pics are barely OK. The first 2 pics at www.seaneyc.co.uk/mdacompact are taken in lessening light, they're probably some of the best i've seen from the magician. Night shots, don't waste your time. Can it link with Lotus Notes - we might be migrating in 2005 ( Why, why, why) Not a clue, sorry. Anyone tried a wiFi card for home browsing - Would this work in a C500 ? Not tried a WIFI card, but definately wouldn't work in C500, they only take MiniSD cards, and as far as i know, there is no self contained MiniSD wifi card. edit: And it does support T9 doesn't it ? Yes, both in phonebook (brilliant) and in Messaging.
Guest mike-oh Posted February 9, 2005 Report Posted February 9, 2005 Hello! Welcome to the site! I'll help with the ones i know (i've only had mine a few hours now) 1) yes you can use t9, either with stylus or your fingers. There's also various other options such as handwriting recognition to input text. I recommend t9 and i think the manual does too! 2) still getting used to a lack of keys. It's a bit strange, i've never had a stylus device before. I reckon i'll get used to it. I need to take it out and about first then i'll know how it fairs. 3) rom upgrade? what rom upgrade (probably my ignorance not your mistake) My version nos Rom 1.01.00 WWE Rom date 10/21/04 (jeez thats old!) radio version (1.00.10) Protocol version 1337.36 extROM version 1.01.128 WWE 4) My phone came with a screen protector, but i took it off cos it made the gorgeous screen look crap. 5) not tried a wifi card. but i'm gonna give bluetooth a try shortly for home browsing. hope that helps somewhat  Mike

Guest GothTeddy Posted February 9, 2005 Report Posted February 9, 2005 Bluetooth's fast enough for web browsing, it'll happily max out your bandwidth (up to a 1Mb connection anyway).
