Guest sainthalo Posted February 9, 2005 Report Posted February 9, 2005 Does anybody know how I record a phone call? I checked before i purchased the phone and the manual (page 112) intimates this feature is possible. I find this very disappointing and may often have to revert to my SL45i which is impractical. Any bright sparks out there got this working? Perhaps I need to change the firmware or something to enable this feature? Most phones out there can record voice calls for a limited time but I cant get the c500 to do even that. The SL45i can record to the extent of your memory card (many many hours) and then transfers the format automatically to wav on the pc. Surely there is some software to allow a smartphone to do this? :?:
Guest barrowfordred Posted February 9, 2005 Report Posted February 9, 2005 The manual says you can record a conversation, it doesn't say a voice call. I think you can use voice notes to record a conversation between you and other people in the vicinity of the phone, but not a phone call.
Guest hotphil Posted February 9, 2005 Report Posted February 9, 2005 Generally a feature not enabled on UK phones anymore - it's illegal to record a telephone conversation without informing the other party (that's why when you ring most helpdesks you get the recorded message that "your call may be recorded for quality and training purposes"). Think the manufacturers/operators don't want to lay themselves open to lawsuits.
Guest stevewooding Posted February 9, 2005 Report Posted February 9, 2005 Yep - as far as I'm aware, you're only allowed to record a call if you have either - the consent of both parties (continuing after a standard "your call may be recorded" warning is deemed consent as you have the choice to hang up!). - a warrant allowing a representative of a law enforcement agency to record a phone call covertly (in this case good evidence of its necessity is required). Recording a call covertly without either of the above may leave you open to legal action from the other party.

Guest sainthalo Posted February 10, 2005 Report Posted February 10, 2005 (edited) did i quick google search and found this http://www.tucows.com/preview/212681.html <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hi JamJamJam, Afraid that software is just for use with voice modems?? Think it may be in the wrong category! Thanks for looking though  Steve, Your post is very accurate regarding the situation and I would add one thing - if you ring a company who states that we may record calls then you do not need to inform the other party that you are recording because you have deemed or implied permission given that they have indicated that they may record you are entitled to do the same. Looks like I might have to keep dreaming for the perfect phone. C500 is a fine phone though just not quite perfect. Thanks :( Edited February 10, 2005 by sainthalo
