Guest feyaz Posted February 9, 2005 Report Posted February 9, 2005 hi, just wondering it someone could help on this one. I can get a nokia 6630 or o2 i-mate jam. +6630 - its 3g, and with orange 1000mb for 3 months free +o2 imate - windows! which one is the one? also does the i-mate have WLAN?
Guest Disco Stu Posted February 10, 2005 Report Posted February 10, 2005 Get the Jam. Don't be mentioning the N-word here dude
Guest morpheus2702 Posted February 10, 2005 Report Posted February 10, 2005 It does point to a bigger dilemma for a lot of people whose contracts are expiring soon - do they go for 3G, or do they go for a smartphone? Current you can have both going the Motorola/Nokia/Symbian route, but not Windows Mobile.
Guest Tunney Posted February 10, 2005 Report Posted February 10, 2005 (edited) Well, it depends what you want from the device - the JAM is a PDA-phone whilst the 6630 is a smartphone. The JAM is great because it offers you all the power of a Pocket PC in a very small form factor. That makes it a great PDA with most of the functionality of a phone too. Being a Pocket PC, there's LOADS of good software for it. The 6630 is great because functions like a regular phone (very good for phone calls and texting), but has most of the functionality of a PDA too. Having compared both, I'd also say that the camera on the 6630 is much better than the JAM's and the battery life from what I've seen is better as well. If you're mainly going to be making calls/texting, I'd go with the Nokia 6630. If you're mainly going to be using the device as a PDA, then go with the JAM. EDIT: The JAM doesn't have wifi built-in, but it does have an SD-IO slot if you wish to add a wifi adapter to it. Edited February 10, 2005 by Tunney

Can't have them all. anyway I am currently on 3 and don't really see a real use for 3g, for me anyway (although limited to 3's content). I had the orange spv when it first came out, brilliant phone just didn't have built in camera or bluetooth. anyway I think I am going to go for the JAM. confussed me a bit, rang o2 they said they haven't heard of the JAM?????? but I have found somewhere to buy it from.
Guest morpheus2702 Posted February 10, 2005 Report Posted February 10, 2005 (edited) According to msmobiles.com, Orange are releasing their own version of the Jam as the SPV M500? Edited February 10, 2005 by morpheus2702

Guest xenophobe Posted February 11, 2005 Report Posted February 11, 2005 I imagine push-to-talk being a feature that will be supported by the next version of Windows Smartphone. At least it should be.
