GPRS connect problem

Has anyone experienced an issue with GPRS connections on their MPx220 not being able to connect after an initial connection? Here's what happens with my phone...

I power it on in the morning and connect to get my email. Some time later that morning, or any other time that same day, I try to connect and am unable to. It doesn't matter what application I use to connect, it just won't connect. If I disable the radio and re-enable it, the same problem exists. However, if I power off the phone and power it back on, then it will connect without any problem. I can surf or do email for as long as I want, as long as I keep that connection alive. Once the connection is ended, I'm not able to establish a new connection withoiut powering the phone off and back on.

It's a pain...

Haven't contacted Motorola yet, but I will if other people are having the same, or very similar, problem.

Thanks...

Yeah... I think everybody experiences it...

I used to have 0.342 firmware and it happened every 5 minutes - had to turn the phone off and on - really annoying. I called support, but these guys don't know S$%T. Eventually my phone was replaced to 1.3 f/w. Still, same problem, although perhaps less often.

Some people have suggested that this is a local network problem, although I don't buy it - how does the phone fix the problem by simply power cycling? Some have suggested that it's a network issue when you roam from one cell to the other and that this is a result of the entire ATT / Cingular merger.

Bottom line - for now it seems we are screwed...

Well, it appears I may have found a solution for my phone. Instead of using 0.0.0.0 for the primary and secondary DNS server IP, I used a couple of public DNS servers I know of.

It's been working just fine since last night.

Go find a couple of public DNS servers and plug them in.

Good luck!

Well, the jury is still out...but the service has definitely improved...

So - how's that working out for you?

Any success? I tried using some DNS server, but it didn't quite work.

you could verify the usefulness of this entire approach by entering an ip address into IE. That way, there is no requirement for DNS and it would be interesting to see if you can open the page. My guess is not...

Well, entering an IP address isn't advisable, for several reasons. That aside, the manual DNS entries have been working quite well. For the last couple of days, I've only had to restart the thing three times. So, it's better, but not fixed. :-(

Sorry, just realized you meant entering the IP into the address bar of the browser, not the IP address of the phone...duh.

Anyway, it's working pretty well for me...so far, just not perfectly.
