Guest Davewins Posted February 10, 2005 Report Posted February 10, 2005 (edited) Hi, I'm having a few problems downloading games and other items to my phone. When I click on the download button on Quake for example, it asks me if I want to open it or save it, I click open and the zip file shows a load of stuff but there is no way I can transfer it or set it up on my phone. All I ever seem to get is txt files and pages of code. I'm not that bright when it comes to this sort of thing. Can anyone give me a step by step guide of how to do this. By the way I have an Orange SPV C500 with 2003 second edition software. Edited February 10, 2005 by Davewins
Guest chucky.egg Posted February 10, 2005 Report Posted February 10, 2005 Welcome to the site Davewins! Possibly where you're getting caught out is that CAB files (which are the installation packages on the phone) are interpreted as ZIP files on a lot of machines. Basically: 1) Download your chosen app 2a) If it's a CAB, or HME you just copy it to your phone and run it from the phone (not the PC) 2b) If it's an EXE it's probably an installation that runs from your PC, but sometimes it'll be a stand-alone app that you just copy to your phone and run there 2c) If it's a ZIP then uncompress it on your PC and there'll probably be a CAB or EXE file in it (in which case go to 2a) I haven't tried Quake, so I can't comment on that particular example
Guest xenophobe Posted February 11, 2005 Report Posted February 11, 2005 for example, it asks me if I want to open it or save it, When it asks you that, click "SAVE" and then tell it where to save to. Desktop is your best bet. Once it has finished downloading, on your ActiveSync window, click "Explore", then go to Storage or Storage Card (if you have one), and then drag the file and drop it in there. Open File Manager on your phone, go to that location and select it. It'll install and then you'll be able to play it. With Quake, you'll need the map files from the actual game and need to copy them to the folder it installs the program to.
