Sorry about all the questions but it is quite a complex phone!

As mentioned before I got a c500 for myself and one for my wife. She only wants to play games, mp3's, videos and play with the camera (oh and also make calls!) She is worried that she will accidentally go on something that will use GPRS, is there any way to completely disable it on the phone.

I couldn't find anything. I set it to use a pass-through connection only but the next time I checked it was back on Auto.

I've done a bit of a search on the web but can't find anything about switching it off on the phone - only that you can phone Orange up who will bar it from their end.

Any Ideas Folks??

I suppose you could go into the settings>data connections, and edit the connections to something that won't connect?

Then why not phone Orange and get it barred???

Just turn off the GPRS when you start the phone up:-

1. Hold down the 'Home' Key for the homescreen.

2. Select 'Disconnect GPRS'

jlowap - correct me if I'm wrong but I thought that just disconnected you if you were allready connected, it doesn't stop you connecting.

Unfortunately Confucious, you're right. That does only disconnect the current GPRS session - effectively, this "ends your call" but it doesn't stop you from making the next one which was the original question.

I can't come up with a better option than those above - change the username/phone number to something wrong, or ask Orange to switch GPRS off.

Good luck mate - let us know what works, will ya?

humm... i was sure you could disconnect the GPRS. :/

aH! just tried it! on the C500, you can no longer do it....

you used to be able to do it.

Sorry for the confusion..

Well I tried holding the home button down, which disconnects the call, but then the G symbol appears instantly again :(

I don't really want to bar it at orange incase I ever need to download something with it. I want to be able to go and switch it back on

I looked at the GPRS settings to change the username or password and they are both empty. Does this mean it's not set up for GPRS??

I have never put settings in and have never tried to use it, just assumed it was connecting because the G shows up at the top?

BTW: worms is great on the c500!

Which G? The big G in the midle of the status bar just means GPRS is available, the little G by the battery meter appears when you are connected.

If you change the Acess point in your GPRS settings it would not be able to connect so you wouldn'ty be charged. The username and passwords are blank and the phones are set to use GPRS from the box.

Sorry to bring up an old post by can I confirm that if I don't use any applications that require going on the internet for then no GPRS charges will be made? Also - What if I connect to GPRS using my computer's internet connection, do I get charged? I'm new to the phone ;)

When you say "What if I connect to GPRS using my computer's internet connection, do I get charged?", do you mean using your phone to give the PC internet, in which case you will get charged, or do you mean using a passthrough connection to give your PC's internet to the phone- this will cost you nothing (except for the cost of your PCs internet).. but remember if you're on PAYG with Orange, it's free GPRS till April 30th! yay
