Guest Alex_le_brit Posted February 12, 2005 Report Posted February 12, 2005 Hi Is there any way to uninstall MSN Messenger, Windows Media Player etc.? As I've downloaded Agile Messenger and PocketMusic it seems a bit stupid to keep these redundant programs especially as I'd like the space.
Guest Disco Stu Posted February 12, 2005 Report Posted February 12, 2005 As they are part of the ROM you're stuck with them I'm afraid.
Guest xenophobe Posted February 12, 2005 Report Posted February 12, 2005 Someday this may be an option with the reverse engineering that a few people are working on, but for now, you're stuck with them. I wish I could clean out some stuff too....
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted February 12, 2005 Report Posted February 12, 2005 As the space is allocated you would not benefit from removing them.

The amount of RAM stays exactly the same, the amount of ROM stays exactly the same. You just end up with a larger chunk of unused ROM space and fewer apps. If you want to hack your ROM or use someone else's hack and most likely ruin the phone, go nuts, but that's pretty drastic for a net gain of nothing. Smartphones are no less flexible than any other phone just because you can't get your way by snapping your fingers. Go try some from SonyEricsson or Nokia or Motorola or LG, there's lots and lots of phones out there. Edited February 15, 2005 by markgamber

Just think a ROM tailored to your usage. One day this will be possible and on that day I'll let my pig take my WIFI phone out for a flight.
Guest xenophobe Posted February 15, 2005 Report Posted February 15, 2005 In the traditional sense, that would be correct. But from what I understand, and definitely correct me if I'm wrong, but all of the memory on a HTC Typhoon is FLASH memory.... not EPROM... So basically the rom is sitting on usable memory and is just write protected. That would probably mean there is a way to set allocations for rom storage when the rom is being installed or updated. Those guys that are reverse engineering the rom installers may yet be able to accomplish this...
