Really quiet alert sounds

why are the alert sounds (New message, calender alert, alarm, etc) so quiet. i know it's trying to be clever by only displaying cirtain sounds in the drop down box but it's anoying that you can't pick ANY of the sounds on the phone.

How can i make it display all of the sounds on the device???

also, does anyone know where i can download some good alert sound (preferably waves) and where to put them on the phone. or any other solution would be welcome.
