Guest Paul [MVP]
Those great guys over at MadBeetle have tonight announced the public release of their exciting new 'Animated Homescreen' Plugin. As the name suggests, the plugin allows Homescreen Developers to feature animations on their homescreens! MadBeetle provide the homescreen plugin itself and an animation editor. More details can be found here, an excerpt of which follows... The plugin is designed to play animations in such a way that the affect on your phone and your phones battery is minimal. The animation player dll is just 50k, and uses a minimal amount of memory when playing back animations. The animation stops playing when the backlight switches off or you switch away from the homescreen. We are providing the mechanism to play animations on your homescreen, and hope to encourage home designers to use the tools to create the homescreens. In the mean time, you can try the two homescreens we have created (above), and once homescreen designers start providing new files we'll make them available to download here. If you are a homescreen designer you can download the Animation Editor here, and the plugin here Use it create your animation and submit your files to us for signing. At the moment we are offering free signing for non-commercial use (unsigned files display 'DEMO' over the animation, but once signed this is removed). Please read the terms of usage and instructions for the animation editor. In recognition of what I think is an awesome potential for development with this new (FREE FOR NON COMMERCIAL USE) Plugin, I have created a new area in our Homescreen Downloads database specifically for animated homescreens... I look forward to seeing everyone's new creations in there  I am particularly impressed, having used the plugin for a few days, that MadBeetle's claims that the plugin doesn't affect battery life appear well founded... good work :( P

Guest nickcornaglia
QUESTION: Can one animate the entire background or does the plugin take up it's own space like all plugins? I was going to animate my neostream 2005 homescreen until I realized this probability. Edited February 16, 2005 by nickcornaglia
Guest MoRFLeZ
Aaawww this is so typical. My phone is still away for repairs and I reaaaally want this! encece ya have to do your neostream screen! That one looks awesome!
Guest nickcornaglia
The bad part is I need to take out all plugins that are shown to the left of the little guy. I was hoping that it worked BEHIND all of the plugins. Well, I guess we need to get creative to make the gap between plugins as minimal as possible. Guest TBanan
I used the "Smart Exploere" to exe the hme file and all installed and work right from the start. Looks great on my E200! And it's only active when the screen is in use and is lighted. More of those, please!!! Edited February 16, 2005 by TBanan
Guest madbeetle
The plugin will only work on Smartphone 2003 phones.. as its these phones that have the ability to detected the backlight going out. You need to install the plugin first then the hme files. Obviously you only need to install the plugin once. Get the plugin from http://www.madbeetle.com/Homescreen.html To install the plugin and the hme files you can do the following :- [1] Connect your phone to your PC and establish an active sync connection [2] Using file explorer on your PC, copy the cab file to your mobile device into :- Storage\Windows\Start Menu\Accessories [3] On your device open the accessories folder via the Start Menu. [4] You will see the cab/hme file listed, select it and run it. Its a plugin just like the other plugins, so you can't put other plugins over the top of it. The Alien would look cool though Encece, but you'll need to change it a little. Edited February 17, 2005 by madbeetle
