Guest daron Posted February 15, 2005 Report Posted February 15, 2005 I have been waiting since December and I could not wait to get my hands on the phone, and like every one else, I phoned OCS virtually everyday. Well, I have had my phone for over a week now, and I have mixed feelings. :?: The phones functionality can not be disputed, it is functionally rich and a great PDA. However, as a phone I have had a number of problems, the primary one is that the phones speaker is not loud enough. The second issue is that the person on the other side is constantly asking me to speak up, as I always seem a bit muffled. (I am not using any hands free headset) How is every one else finding this phone?
Guest Pondrew Posted February 16, 2005 Report Posted February 16, 2005 No problems at all. Impressed with the functionality and build quality. Was once told I was echoing slightly but fine aside. All in all a smooth transition from my E200 to the MDA III. You're sure you're not obscuring the mic hole?
Guest Chimpanzee Posted February 16, 2005 Report Posted February 16, 2005 I don't really have problems with the earpiece and microphone quality. it's just the ringtone and alert sounds volume i'm having problems with. i found similar problems with my spv 200 See: This post
Guest martinwcooper Posted February 16, 2005 Report Posted February 16, 2005 Very pleased so far - can't think of any major problems. The keyboard is better than i thought - I almost always use it for data entry (e.g. emails, texts). As the first Pocket PC phone I've had I was very worried about the size. But I find that as well as fitting in my suit jacket pocket, it also fits in my trouser pocket ok (even jeans) so long as it isn't in the case. The screen protector is crap, but I'll see about getting a decent one sometime soon. I can't really do without one seeing as I don't use the case. All in all, very impressive. Certainly better than my previous Windows Mobile experience which was the original SPV!

Otherwise its great.

I've carried my phone in my jeans since '94*! Don't want to have to put my jacket down at a party/pub and leave it unattended. Is it workable in jeans, or a tight squeze? I've got an SPV in mine right now, barely notice it's there. * my left testicle is probably sterile by now!

I'd say very workable. At the risk of discussing jeans in a PPC forum, i'd say i wear average fitting jeans - neither very tight nor too loose. As long as it's the only thing in my pocket i'd say it's a pretty easy fit - slips in and out easily. I thought i'd have to leave the phone behind on nights out but now I don't think i will. PS - impressed with the wi-fi too. Am writing this on the blue angel in starbucks on a t-mobile hotspot. The speed is phenomenal - even big pages load in a couple of seconds. If only hot spots were free!

There are websites listing them. There is even a community driven one where you can add your own to the list and get maps for areas. See here for one I just googled. I read about this sort of thing ages ago, has the potential to be huge. Imagine local p2p services, e.g. you want to download some TV show a neighbour has, you could share security cameras, play games etc. Has the potential to be huge!
Guest daron Posted February 19, 2005 Report Posted February 19, 2005 Another interesting development! When the device runs out of steam, and I change the battery, I lose all my data. However, this does not happen all the time!!! I Still like it though  But the nigley little problems could soon make me think again

However, this does not happen all the time!!! I Still like it though  But the nigley little problems could soon make me think again <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I've heard of that issue elsewhere and as a result I was worried first time I had to swap my sim between the MDA III and E200. Did it as quick as I could and breathed a sigh of relief. Since then done it several times and each time more leisurely. Never lost any data at all. Also I tested Will's (moderator here) suggestion that leaving the keyboard out will result in a hard reset overnight and despite leaving the keyboard out many nights it never happened. Either the MDA III has a very good rom or not all units are having the same issues...
