Hi,

I think I've pretty much decided on getting an MPx200 from Motorola. I'm going to go for the one in the CarphoneWarehouse if they have some in stock seeing as they are already on the O2 network and that is what SIM I will be putting into the phone.

I 've read through the forum on here and it seems like I want to upgrade to Windows Mobile 2003 too... I've seen this on EBAY

EDIT

Does anyone recommend this? Or do people know of anywhere else that you can get the windows mobile software upgraded?

Thanks

Paul

google for mpx200 firmware and you'll find it for free, dont pay any of the ebay scammers for an unauthorized upgrade which is not supported by motorola or microsoft.

Sorry my English is not so good :( !

But so far i think that you want to know where you can upgredate your MPX 200 too Windows Mobile 2003.

Well there is no place to do this. you have to do this yourself on your on risk and you should know that it isn't allowed to do this. But if you wanna update your mobile too 2003 it is not really a big problem there are much direkt download links around there  .

And yes Windows 2003 is much better with the MPX than 2002. Many Peoble on the Board think 2002 is better but i don't think so.

You will find that most people who have upgraded to 2003 would prefer

to go back to 2002 as 2003 is more system resource hungry and slows the phone down.

Also don't forget you will be invalidating the warranty on your new phone.

PS

It's best not to support the scum who think you should pay for something they got for free and is also ilegal for them to sell.

Thanks guys...

Yes I do wish to upgrade my MPX200 to Windows 2003 (when I get it from the CPW!) as I've seen that it can perform a lot more. How much resource does the 2003 windows mobile use compared to the 2002 version then? What does that mean to me?

Also will I be able to play video files, providing I have enough storage space, etc..., on windows 2003?

Also what is the maximum capacity on the SD slot?

The phone can take any size you can throw at it, but I have found that Viking cards do not work properly in the MPX200.

You can play video files on any version of OS you have on the phone as you would be keeping all applications and movies etc on the SD card.

Yeah the maximum is 1 GB i think but perhaps you will be lucky to put in more  !

For example i have a yakumo Pocket PC delta 200. Max SD size should be 256 mb but it can read 1 GB SD'S also.

You will be able to watch video files. Convert it with Pocket Divx Encoder. You can play them with BetaPlayer(Freeware) or Smartmovie(Commercial)

1 Film (120 min = 128 MB) with quality set to 1.

1 Film (120 min = 170 MB) with quality set to 5 (really good almost dvd qualy)

Now you'll need a card reader for sd cards because it cost alot of time to transfer 128 MB over the Aktiv Sync. With an SD Reader you can transfer the video file directly on your SD and put it back in your smartphone then.

NO you can watch the video files with 2003 as with 2002 :( ! No difference in performence.

EDIT

Enjoy your Smartphone

Greetings !!!

Alot more?

What more? Do you mean more recent programs?

Smartphone 2002 already provides you with it. Calendar, Contacts, Emails are the basics of your personal communications and information. Nothing can give you so much more than that. New systems will only enhance quality and speed of interfaces and modularity. New tools like video conference through 3G depend more on Telecommunication Protocols and hardware that software which can not exist on old phones.
