Starters-How to tell Firmware Version, un/locked

Hi Guys. I've got a new MPx220 coming tomorrow (It cost me $0.00, more on that later) and I'm drooling into my keyboard!

It will be CIngular branded, and was provided by a Cingular on-line partner. I'm wondering how to determine the basics with this phone: Locked/Unlocked status, and of course, which Firmware version is on the phone. If I'm going to have to flash it to v1.30, I'm going to do it before I install my data and programs.
