Guest TigerNet Posted February 21, 2005 Report Posted February 21, 2005 Does anyone know of an application that would let me answer the iMate Jam via the PC (therefore having the call through PC mike and speakers) while it is connected by the USB cable??? This would be really useful to me to save unplugging everytime I get a call (I know I could use speakerphone...) Ideas??? Cheers Nick
Guest inspectorgadjet Posted February 21, 2005 Report Posted February 21, 2005 I've never heard of one. However, if your pc has Bluetooth using the widcomm drivers, you can usually set it up to be the bluetooth headset for your phone. Then you can answer using the bluetooth connection. Bluetooth devices are not very expensive now...you can get them for under £20 if you shop around. So if you don't have one...go on...upgrade a little.
Guest TigerNet Posted February 21, 2005 Report Posted February 21, 2005 ...got bluetooth...can you give a little 'how to'... Cheers Nick
Guest inspectorgadjet Posted February 21, 2005 Report Posted February 21, 2005 If you've paired the device with the computer, it should have asked you if you want to use the computer as a handsfree. If you said yes at the time, you're already set up. If you said no, you need to go to your bluetooth control panel, go to Devices. Then tap and hold on your computer, and choose, set as handsfree. Once you've done that, when your phone starts ringing, it should also 'ring' on your pc, and a help buble should pop up asking if you want to establish the connection. I think that's about all there is to it. Unfortunately, I'm not in front of my home pc right now, so I can't tell you if I've left anything out.
Guest TigerNet Posted February 21, 2005 Report Posted February 21, 2005 ...ta...will give it a go... Cheers Nick
Guest TigerNet Posted February 22, 2005 Report Posted February 22, 2005 ...right...I am not given the option for 'set as handsfree'...any ideas?? Cheers Nick
Guest inspectorgadjet Posted February 22, 2005 Report Posted February 22, 2005 That may mean that your pc has not been set up for the headset profile. First of all...make sure you have the latest bluetooth drivers on your pc. Are they Widcomm drivers or are you using the MS bluetooth? Hopefully they're Widcomm because they're much better than MS. If they're Widcomm, some companies are up to version 4 of the bluetooth drivers...some are up to 3...and yeat other are still stuck around 1.4 or 1.5. If you've got one of these versions you should be ok. Make sure the Audio Gateway profile is enabled on your pc, then repair with your phone, and it should allow you to set as handsfree.
Guest TigerNet Posted February 22, 2005 Report Posted February 22, 2005 ...where would I enable the audio gateway profile? Appreciate the help... Cheers Nick
Guest inspectorgadjet Posted February 22, 2005 Report Posted February 22, 2005 If you're using the Widcomm drivers, I believe you go to My Bluetooth Places...then click the Advanced Configuration button, and it should be listed as one of the local or client services. It may be called something other than audio gateway, so look for profiles which might be the same thing...most have an icon with a head and a headset. Do you know which Bluetooth drivers and version you are using? If you could tell me those I may be able to give a more accurate answer.
Guest TigerNet Posted February 22, 2005 Report Posted February 22, 2005 ...not sure which drivers, but it is a toshiba dongle...got to my bluetooth places and can see audio gateway, but cannot see how to activate...it says start up automatically, secure connection not required... ...have also updated drivers...
