Guest nickvid Posted February 21, 2005 Report Posted February 21, 2005 Hi When i connect to GPRS the signal strength indicator changes to a G but once it has finished loading the page up it reverts back to the mast, if i click a link, the phone reconnects back to the GPRS network. Is there any setting that will make the phone stay connected as it seems to be making browsing slow as it is having to connect everytime i want to move between pages. A motorla V600 on 02 GPRS seems way quicker than mine.
Guest pietta Posted February 21, 2005 Report Posted February 21, 2005 Install this app and in the menu set 'always on gprs. i dont think it will give you a speed boost though, im still getting 6kbpsSmartease_Shell_OrangeUK.cab

Guest pietta Posted March 3, 2005 Report Posted March 3, 2005 Possibly, the best thing to do is to go to task manager and forcefully quit internet explorer
Guest BanziBarn Posted April 16, 2005 Report Posted April 16, 2005 Can I just confirm that the G next to the signal strength means GPRS - the reason I ask is that I just setup all the Virgin bits and bobs so I could surf and use MMS but to test that I was defo GPRSing I turned Internet Connections from Virgin GPRS to Virgin WAP and I still got the G :?:
Guest DomConway Posted April 18, 2005 Report Posted April 18, 2005 (edited) A G in the middle of the title bar means GPRS is available, a G replacing the antenna symbol on the signal strength indicator means GRPS is being used. Normally, in order to hang up GPRS, all you need to do is hit the red hang up key - no need to forcibly quit IE. (Edited for clarity) Edited April 18, 2005 by DomConway

I wonder why I still got the G even after turning GPRS off. Maybe I would have needed to close and restart explorer before the new settings took over. But, anyay, at least now I know that I am GPRSing - I was just woried that I was running up a big PAYG bill so need to check!

I was getting the G instead of the Antena even after turning GPRS off, but as I said, I think I may have needed to have restarted internet explorer for this to setting to be registered.
Guest [email protected] Posted April 18, 2005 Report Posted April 18, 2005 i think your wrong. i assume by csd you mean circuit switched data ie data call but i get the arrows when using the phone as a gprs modem for my ppc. the g in the signal bars means you are connected to gpes but unfortunatly you have no way of knowing if you are actually sending or recieving anyting. my old P900 dad a globe that flashed when send\recive but the c500 seems to just show the g like my old 6310i

In I.E I am just relying on the flag to see if I am receiveing data - the G just sits there static.

It's speed is 9600 kbps.

Guest cold_fire Posted April 19, 2005 Report Posted April 19, 2005 Is GPRS 9600 too? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No GPRS is 57600 kbps(class 10) about 6-7 times faster than CSD.

Guest cold_fire Posted April 19, 2005 Report Posted April 19, 2005 So whats that in KB per sec? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Theoreticly 57.6/8 means max 7.2 KBps but most networks offer an average of 5-6 KB.

Guest cypherkin Posted April 20, 2005 Report Posted April 20, 2005 I see. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> ok I need help with this. Here are my settings: GPRS: Hutch GPRS: Connects TO: THe internet Access Point: portalnmms Hutch-mms Connects TO: MMS Network Access Point: portalnmms IP: 10.10.1.100 PROXY CONECTIONS: Hutch GPRS: Connects from: The Internet Connects to: WAP Network Proxy: 10.10.1.100:9201 Type: WAP IE -> Options Connections: Select Network: The Internet --------------------------- The problem is that, the regular G is always present; so I know that GPRS is available, and that part of the settings are right atleast. The problem I run into is when I actually try to goto a website such as http://mobile.msn.com/pocketpc ; or for that matter any website it gives me just: "ERROR, Unable to connect. Verify you have network coverage and try again." This is really wierd, and it does it for all the sites that I try. I do not know what I setup wrong, and it is being a real pain in the ass as I am not able to get on GPRS, and I am paying for ti monthly. These are the settings provided by the website, any help is much appreciated. >>>>>>>>>>>>>.
