Windows Media Player 10

I just downloaded Windows Media Player 10 which somebody had stripped from their phone.

I put it onto my phone and tried to run it and I get:

Error

Access Denied. The program cannot start because it is not digitally signed with a trusted certificate.

I presume this is because I have not app-unlocked my mobile. Should I just try and app-unlock or do I have no chance of getting it to work? The OS it is from is mobile 2003 SE so it should be the same OS.

Any ideas before I proceed??

Well I'm just trying to app-unlock my phone to test further. The website seems to work and says I should get a message within 5 minutes but I'm still waiting (it's only been about 15 mins though)

Unlocking shouldnt harm anyway(I dunno about warranty). You do it and we will be glad to hear about result.

as mentioned in the WMP10 petition, its illegal to use WMP10 on a phone it's not licensed to.

I'm not sure about that bazzo. The licence is for Windows 2003SE, not for media player - media player is a free part of Windows Mobile.

Just figured out why the app unlock didn't work (I put the wrong phone number in :oops: )

right my phone just connected up then gave me a screen saying it had, had it's security certificate disabled, but strangely enough it still gives the same error about not being digitaly signed with a trusted certificate?

Did my app unlock fail?

Is this just a strange file that gets locked into the phone and won't work otherwise?

Can anybody think of an app that wouldn't normally work - to test if my app unlock has worked.

I just remembered Tudor had told me about a program called TinyGPS which need the phone to be app unlocked - I just installed that and it worked with no probs, so it looks like my phone is appunlocked

Any ideas for progress with this? I have all the files, for WMP10 and the registry from the phone they came from, but it just says it is not digitally signed :lol:

"...unauthorized copying is forbidden..." its definitly not free...

I'll worry about the technicallities if I can get it work. If it does work I will email Microsoft and ask them if it's alright if I use it :lol:

If you want some answer about your signing problem goto www.spv-developers.com there is a sticky about signing maybe that's something and you will probably get better answers than the it's not legal stuff.. :x

Yes, it's definitely free. It's the "Unauthorised reproduction or distribution" part that would make this software illegal to use. They don't charge for it, they just don't want anyone else distributing it.

I only mentioned it because talking about "illegal stuff" could be a danger for the whole community. But if i'm wrong, forget about my postings in this thread.

Well, there must be some money changing hands somewhere, because M$ obviously aren't giving it out for free. Although exactly why they are only distributing the upgrade via the service providers is a bit of a mystery to me...

I looked into the spv-developers stuff, which looks good but is intented for signing your own apps so you need to add lines into your source code.

I suspect the problem would be that Windows Media Player 10 requires Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition with a special add-in doesn't it? Can't remember what it was called but it was a specific technology necessary for WMP10. Sadly I don't think the C500 had it included whereas the Audiovox did...

hmm,

to find out if the problem ist the app-lock, ask someone with an SDA to try WMP10. The SDAs here are "Natural Unlocked Smartphones" 8)

could you take the file saying that wmp 10 is digitally signed from the root folder of that phone that has wmp 10 by default ? or watever folder the certificate would be in and then put it on the spv?

Another approach would be to decode the nbf file from the DELL Axim 30. You can download the new Dell Rom from the Dell website (linked from microsoft.com) Once you have downloaded the .exe file, run it to extract the files. You will then find the .nbf file. You can then decode the nbf file using this perlscript:
