Guest Kenny-Craig Posted February 22, 2005 Report Posted February 22, 2005 (edited) I have read many posts on the C500 section and as I understand things I can follow the process below to get an unlocked C500 cheaper than getting an offline SP3. 1, Buy a C500 on a PAYG tarrif from Orange for about £150 2, Unlock the C500 with a code supplied by a chap called Florin for £20 3, Apply the i-mate SP3 firmware I have already downloaded to clear the Orange crap off the phone. 4, Download the Vodafone .cab file from the clubimate website to set up MMS/GPRS for my Vodafone contract SIM. 5, Use sugar cube 1.0 to remove the Orange case logo 6, And as Bob is my inlaw a sim free, Orange free SP3. I also understand I may need to apply the unlock patch again after loading the i-mate firmware and I may also need to application unlock the handset via the Orange developer website. Have I missed anything? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> To answer my own question, yes it is that easy I have just got an unlocked sim free SP3 with no Orange Guff for £140 £120 for the handset form the Orange shop and £20 for Florin's unlock code Party.....Bonus.
Guest spvdk Posted February 23, 2005 Report Posted February 23, 2005 ..and you don't even need to get an app-unlocker from Orange, when running the SP3 ROM. If you experience any problems running software, just use the SDA unlocker (link somewhere on this forum)

Guest matt_test Posted February 26, 2005 Report Posted February 26, 2005 i had to hard reset my qtek 8020 (same as SP3i) and i've lost all of my vodafone settings! is there any chance you could download the operator cab from clubimate for me? it won't let me join because i don't have a valid imei number. vodafone haven't been very helpful because the phone is so new that their support teams don't know much about the phone. thanks matt
Guest Disco Stu Posted February 26, 2005 Report Posted February 26, 2005 To save Kenny-Craig breaching his Club i-Mate rules (or whatever...) why not use the Settings repository on MoDaCo ? Vodafone UK Other Operators / Countries available in the Articles section, thanks to Martin's hard work
Guest Pondrew Posted February 27, 2005 Report Posted February 27, 2005 4, Download the Vodafone .cab file from the clubimate website to set up MMS/GPRS for my Vodafone contract SIM. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Out of curiousity did you get clubimate to allow you in? Just that I understood a non I-mate device wouldn't allow you to sign up...

Guest Kenny-Craig Posted February 28, 2005 Report Posted February 28, 2005 so you can put sp3 (-i?) firmware on c500 and it works fine, whats the advantages? and where can i get it? thanks <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I put SP3 firmware on a C500 as they are the same phone just different software builds. This works fine, I downloaded the firmware from the i-mate website without issues using a log-in I already had froma previously owned i-mate product. I wouldn't hold out any hope of burning SP3i firmware on to a C500 for a couple of reasons, one would be the MFR ROM ID on the hardware should make this impossible when the ROM upgrade program checks the hardware compatability and secondly the firmware would probably only stuff or make the C500 unusable due to hardware differences. I think the SP3i is more than just an SP3 in a different case. The advantage (to me) of flashing the C500 with the SP3 ROM is that I got rid of the annoying Orange guff that is no use to me and made the C500 basically a black cased SP3. This also application unloced the handset (if it was locked) and saved that web based arse ache I have read about. Again I will add that if you dont know what you are doing then dont flash the phone because it can go horribly wrong and more than likely stuff the handset either permanently or will take a repair centre to get it back up and running. I am not working totally blind here as I am a communications engineer and worked for a mobile phone manufacturer for over four years in hardware support so I have a fair idea of whats going to work and what isn't but we all still brick a phone once in a while, I think they call it a learning curve. :(
Guest jetcatflyer Posted March 4, 2005 Report Posted March 4, 2005 Could you tell me how I go about getting the SP3 ROM if I haven't got a login for the IMate website. Have tried setting one up but it asks for the IMEI number and it doesn't work with the C500 IMEI
