SPV M2000 and XDA users: does this function work

Hi

This is a question for anyone with SPV M2000 or equivalent.

Can you reliably take a picture using the camera on one of these phones, then sent it as an attachment using any email other than Orange (not using MMS) ?

I find that 40% of time simple email without attachment will send OK, though can be slow to go, but will time-out about 60% of time. If there is an attachment such as a pic (could be any document) then can send OK, only 5% or less of the time. It does definately work occasionally, e.g. between 10:30 to 11:45 yesterday evening (settings not altered). It happens despite good signal strength, and many different locations within the same city (Aberdeen). It also happens with two different email accounts. It doesn't matter which email address I am sending to. Orange support accept that the settings on my phone are correct. Downloads Always Work - even with big attachments.

Now here is odd thing. I also regularly use two completely separate ftp accounts so I can upload and download documents. On the SPV M2000 the upload does not work unless its one of these rare occasions when the email will send attachments. Again downloads always work.

These functions used to work fine on my previous SPVe100, but not now on the big expensive SPV M2000.

Since I am thinking about changing my phone/operator, it would be very helpful to know if it should be possible to reliably upload attachments with M2000 or equivalent.

Are you seeing the problem on wireless / gprs / bluetooth or all?

Its just GPRS that I have tried and have the problem with. So it may involve the smtp.orange.net server but can't only be that because of the similar ftp upload problem.

Any idea how GPRS works - is there separate "slots" for downloading and uploading ? I know that, as usual, upload is slower than download. Perhaps it just gets so slow when the network is busy that upload always times out. Having said that, this is second evening in row when uploads are working, but not working past two days during day. Is it busier during day than evening ?

(I use Bluetooth for file transfer between laptop and M2000, and can access internet, but M2000 has to be so close to laptop that I just use it. Plus I would probably have to use my usual laptop smtp setting for sending. I have used wireless but don't have it set up just now.)
