Guest cna Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 New to the site and new to a mobile which does more that makes calls and texts! Could someone tell me how to get music onto my phone from a CD (and tell me in really simple English please)? I just have the storage card that was supplied with the phone go may have to buy more memory??? How many songs can I load onto the storage card supplier? Also, how do I get the phone to vibrate when I get a text? And finally, am I right in thinking that I can't use any old website to download ringtones? I ordered a Kill Bill tune and it didn't come through. Cheers
Guest Confused Stu Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 Right! I warn you now, by the time I've finished typing this someone else will probably have answered, but here goes just in case! To get music from a CD onto your Smartphone - put CD into drive and open Windows Media Player (I'm assuming WMP10). Select "Rip" tab and then click on "Options". Select "Rip music tab" and select "Windows Media Format" and whatever compression size you want - I personally use 64kps but everyone has their own preference. Higher number = better quality, but bigger file at the end. OK until you get back to the WMP main bit. Now select the songs to rip from the CD, and then select "Start Rip". When it's done - shouldn't take too long - go into My Computer, My Documents, My Music and you should find the songs in an appropriate folder. Highlight the songs, right click on them and select "Copy". Now connect your phone to the PC (if it's not already), and on the Activesync menu select "Explore". Now navigate past "My Smartphone" onto "Storage Card" and "Paste" the songs onto the card. Now, on the phone, go onto Windows Media Player. It'll scan the whole phone on start up and show you all the songs you've got on it. Select one and off you go! Later on, get a bigger memory card (512Mb at least  ) and then download Betaplayer - much better for playing music on. Other questions - to get the phone to vibrate, go into Settings, Profiles, and then select (from the Menu) edit profile. Now set the dobberyflip to "Ring and vibrate" - you'll know what I mean when you get there. Good news - no, you don't need to download you ringtones from the crappy Nokia "pay only £1 per dodgy beepy ringtone" sites. You can now use any ringtone you want - in WAV or WMA format! That's right, you can use one of those songs you just added if you want! Just go back into the "Explore" mode in Activesync and stick the file into "Storage/Application Data/Sounds" - if there isn't a Sounds folder, just make one. Now you'll be able to select this in the Settings menu! For better ringtones, either rip them from a CD yourself, or join the CoolSmartPhone.com site (it's free) and download any of their several hundred! Happy hunting matey, and let me know when you run out of things to add or new things to do with the phone - I've been going 18 months and haven't gone a week without finding something new yet! :(

Guest Confucious Posted February 25, 2005 Report Posted February 25, 2005 You can also use the synch option in WM10 to transfer the files directly to your storage card without having to copy and paste. Provided you are connected via your USB cable and not BT.
Guest cna Posted February 28, 2005 Report Posted February 28, 2005 Thanks for that - I'll give it a go and hopefully it'll all be grand. Cheers
Guest JesseRPI Posted July 12, 2005 Report Posted July 12, 2005 I am not able to synch my music using WM10. It seems to not detect my SMT 5600. What must I do in order to have it recognize my device?
Guest JesseRPI Posted July 12, 2005 Report Posted July 12, 2005 Ok, looks like I figured it out. Apparently it only works using the USB cable and only after the phone is connected with the ActiveSynch software from Microsoft. However, does anyone know if it's possible to synch without using WM10, but simply by copying the tracks directly to the mini SD card? (note that these are DRM protected tracks that I downloaded using Yahoo! Unlimited)
Guest shawfield Posted October 21, 2005 Report Posted October 21, 2005 Yes absolutely. In fact I never bother with Media player, I just use 'my computer'. Navigate to the folder where all my music is stored, then open another 'my computer' window, navigate to my smartphone, then jsut drag &drop from the music fodler direct to the smartphone storage card folder. To see hte music tracks on your smartphone media player, just hit 'menu', 'update library' All will be well, although not sure if DRM music plays on a smartphone, I think it does.

Had my smt5600 about a week. With Activesynch 3.7 and WM 10.0. When connected via USB, in the sync tab of WM10.0, I can see the smartphone, but it shows a folder size of 1.45 MB. Any attempt to sync an entire song (about 3.4 MB) results in not enough room to make the sync succeed. Why is the Smartphone showing only 1.45 MB available and limiting me like this? When I check the phone, it shows over 21 MB of memory available? Help functions in WM 10.0 are not help Appreciate any insight you all could offer. Thanks! Chris
Guest tordofm Posted October 25, 2005 Report Posted October 25, 2005 Chris, I had the same problem with my ipaq. It is a limitation of active sync, in the end I bought a card reader as it was driving me up the wall. Not tested against AS4 as yet. To anybody that also tries to sync with WM10 I can confirm you cannot do it via Infra Red and Active sync, so it looks like the cable is the only option. Marc
