Is there anyway of stopping the ActiveSync window from opening everytime I connect my phone?

I'm quite happy with the system tray icon and it's little animation, I don't need the window to open every damn time I plug in my phone.

Surely there must be a way to stop this - or is there another way to sync my phone?

Yes there is, open the Activesync window before you connect the phone and go:

Tools > Options > Rules

Uncheck the "Open Activesync when my device connects" tab

Bingo
