.avi shrinker?

i need a program for my pc that would convert a dvd rip which is 700mb .avi file into a smaller .avi , which programs are there that do this? please list

no use. i tried to convert the 700mb dvd rip to a smaller size and it only reduced it by 200mb at the most without losing quality with a resolution of 640x480. but thats taking too much space. any ideas people, need help! :?: any other programs? hmm maybe i could encode it again with dr divx.................................

My route is:

DVD Rip using SmartRipper

Dr. DivX it using PcoketPC Settings

PocketDivXEncoder to reduce it

I'd reduce the res to 220x178 or whatever it is the pocketdivx encoder recommends - that's the physical res of the screen on the phone so keeping the movie at a higher res just bloats the size without increasing picture quality :lol:

Just to reiterate Skeese - are you looking to play the file on your phone, or on your PC? Only asking 'cos if it's the phone then just reduce the resolution. If you're gonna play it on your PC then it sounds like you're stuck unless you're happy dropping quality.

Ok, then - dumb question. Why do you not drop the resolution to 220x176 as this is the largest the phone can display? Anything larger than that and you're just wasting storage space and processing speed in asking the phone to scale it while playing. :-k

The only explanation I can come up with is that you're using your phone as a storage medium to move the file from one PC to another?
