Guest TigerNet Posted February 28, 2005 Report Posted February 28, 2005 What applications do people use to text - preferably one-handed... It is my main/only frustration with the Jam... Ideas??? Cheers Nick
Guest En_croute Posted February 28, 2005 Report Posted February 28, 2005 I know what you mean. Suprisingly, I find myself using the stylus & keyboard, and loving it, althought I have tried the Intelipad, which is similar to a Nokia, except you have to select the word you want from the bar on the top, as opposed to scrolling through the options with the * key
Guest Disco Stu Posted February 28, 2005 Report Posted February 28, 2005 Using the Phone Pad. I actually read the manual last night and found out what all the buttons do. I hadn't figured out which was the space bar... My gripe is with locating contacts
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted February 28, 2005 Report Posted February 28, 2005 I must confess, i'm using my SP3i and M2000 atm... I really miss the keypad when using the Jam, and if I want to use PPC functionality, it's nice to have the big screen of the M2000 :| P
Guest chucky.egg Posted February 28, 2005 Report Posted February 28, 2005 Give you £50 for the Jam then?
Guest Disco Stu Posted February 28, 2005 Report Posted February 28, 2005  Nice try, buddy :( How to edit the T9 dictionary ? (another :D ) Seems to have learnt the f-word, but not having any truck with the s-word :?:
Guest TigerNet Posted February 28, 2005 Report Posted February 28, 2005 ...aarrghhh...I still find myself swapping my sim card from SP3 to Jam at least twice a day... ...can someone write a text program for us??? Cheers Nick
Guest Chaser81 Posted February 28, 2005 Report Posted February 28, 2005 Hmm... I guess I am the only one who has actually gotten used to texting on it now and doesnt find it too bad....
Guest spangelsaregreat Posted February 28, 2005 Report Posted February 28, 2005 I just use the block recogniser with the stylus. It is far quicker than the pad for me. Coming from an SX1 I am used to using two hands when using the phone. Not a big texter anyway. Regards

Guest MitchellO Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 I use the phone pad and it works great for both SMS and MSN. Not for anything else though. Takes up soooo much of the screen. I find it easier to use for T9 text than on my last phone. (SE T610)
Guest Disco Stu Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 You guys needs to use fitaly and stop moaning! Use both hands too...! :D <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Fitaly for Windows CE Do we need a residential course for this ? :?: ;) There is a trial download
Guest TigerNet Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 Fitaly for Windows CE Do we need a residential course for this ? :?: ;) There is a trial download Blimey!!! ...slowly getting used to the phone pad...but selecting contacts is a pain... ...agree that using the stylus is faster and easier, but if walking, I feel really stupid when I walk into lamp posts!!! :D Cheers Nick
Guest lighthouse82 Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 wow, that fitaly keyboard is seriously clever. now there is nothing to stop me getting a Jam/M500/etc. oh, except that my contract is only 6 weeks old. arse!
Guest Loukas Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 (edited) Paul, You say you use your SP3 or M2000 more nowadays. Has the initial excitement of the JAM gone, or do you still recommend it? I'm still looking to buy one of these beauties, but I'm concerned with the lack of keyboard - coming from a Treo 600! For me, it'll be either the M500 or the M2000 with bluetooth headset, once the M500 comes out on Orange .. the defining factor though is that I want something more portable than the Treo - so even though I love the features of the M2000, I'm not very happy with the fact that it's not pocketable. I'm not a heavy user of SMS (casual - say 50-100 txts a month) and use my Treo mostly for Phone applications and carrying my Outlook schedule with me. I'm wondering how you guys feel about the JAM now that the initial excitement is wearing off, and you might see things more objectively.... Thank you for your reply, Loukas Edited March 1, 2005 by Loukas
Guest Disco Stu Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 I probably send the same number of texts as yourgoodself, and while the above comments on texting are true, it's not put me off the Jam. Now and then I cast furtive glances across to my beloved old C500 but I've never been seriously tempted to fire it up. Even for pub / footie trips I carry the Jam. Were I a youngster sending off 50-100 texts per school lesson, I'd hate the sodding thing but I'm not and I love the extra functionality / screen-size. The C550 does make me wonder about a device with the best of both worlds, mind you. :D
Guest MitchellO Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 I have to say, that after having it for a few weeks, the incredibly small size has worn off. It isn't as small as it was when I first got it (I was going from an ipaq 4355 with b/i keyboard) but it still great. Also, the call volume of both the speakerphone and earpiece (the internal one) are too weak. Maybe a ROM/RAM update will increase the volume. I find the speakerphone unusable. There is no way you could move more than 2m from the phone, as you cant here the other person and the mic can't hear you. The camera is good enough for the occational picture, the screen is beautiful (except for the dead pixel I have. In negotiations to get an exchange), batterylife is awesome (doesn't compare to my ipaq 4355 with an extra standard (1560mah) and extended (3600mah) batteries) compared to a single battery for my ipaq 4355 (which was larger in capacity 1200vs1560mah). I absolutely love the look of this thing. So clean looking, no mixing of reflective (aka. fingerprint magnet) and non reflective bits, metal case, nice buttons. Very professional (even though i am at school). Good weight. Overall, I love my XDA II Mini, just some things they need to fix (the sound volume is all that needs fixing really for me).

OK, it seems normal sized now, but now try using a typical handheld.... you'l find it huge! As for speakerphone, is what you're describing not normal?
