Guest snakeeater Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 after years of being with orange, Ive come to the point where I am fed up of their services and wish to end my contract with them. Is there any facility for paying to opt out? Even if this means they take my SPVC500 back. Failing this what if I stop paying? They'll terminate my contract then wont they? My contract on this handset doesnt finish until November and I really dont want to be with them that long. Any advice would be very much appreciated.
Guest Samsonite Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 the only way i can think of escaping a contract without getting any kind of credit problem is to drop your monthly tariff right down to the lowset available and then wait a month or two and buy your way out. ie pay the remaining contract period based on your monthly liability... with 8 months left, it still isnt gonna be cheap but any other way will only give you grief trying to organise it and potentially get you on a black list somewhere for not paying your bills...

At the worst, they'll charge you £10 for every month remaining on your contract. I think that's the best way. Others might know a better way... HTH
Guest Drewtech Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 If you upgraded to get your C500 then you can't donwgrade your tarriff until after 6 months. Personally I would suggest that you stick with the current contract until it runs out and then move. Why pay to buy out a contract, unless you think you can get a much cheaper deal elsewhere.
Guest chucky.egg Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 DON'T JUST STOP PAYING You'll get a bad credit rating, and you might find you can't get another contract after that Changing down to the lowest tariff and keeping the contract makes sens, you can always use it as a spare. If you cancel the payment you're getting nothing for your money
Guest mavisdavis Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 Yeah I'm toying with buying out my contract. I've just got one of those O2simcards with 300 free texts a month. seeing as I use it for texts mainly It'lll be cheaper for me to buy out of Orange and goto 02 with an average bill of £80 a month I could easily buy a new handset every 6mths and get it unlocked as Orange have started a the trend of selling the C500 on PAYG for £149 I could buy it get it unlocked and wahay goodbye Orange, so lets hope they carry on sellling the next breed of Smartphones :D
Guest hunyango_uk Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 i strongly agree with the guys. [-X don't just stop paying that make sense, just drop tariff and end your one year contract so you can't have bad credit.
Guest sporkguy Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 lol the worst thing you can do is stop paying. the fellas are right to say you should downgrade your plan to our lowest tariff (a £10 data one would be best), then next month call up cs and go to the option 'if you're thinking of leaving orange'. If it was November you got your C500 - then you're NOT going to be able to lower your tariff until 6 months after your upgrade date (as your phone trainer should have put on the upgrade paperwork). Leaving before 12 months ain't pretty - and it's gonna cost you a fortune compared to sticking with us, but its your money!

That will help the financial hit you will get for remaining in contract with Orange. You can then feel free to go with someone else and have duel contracts till November. If you want to keep your number you will have to wait till November to request a PAK code (which you use to migrate numbers across between networks) Realistically unless you can prove that they were in breach of contract (unlikely it has to be said) you will have to stick with them. That doesn't stop you writing angry letters and emails and posts highlighting their piss-poor customer service. Sorry i can't offer much more. D
Guest Confucious Posted March 2, 2005 Report Posted March 2, 2005 It begs the question - Why? If you've been with them for years and were happey enough in Novemmber to upgrade your phone, why do you now want to leave? What tarrif are you on? What's the point of terminating? Just get your C500 unlocked (£20) continue paying what you are now until May (6 Months) then downgrade your contract tio the cheapest possible (data only £10/month so I believe) and use the orange SIM as a spare. You will have to pay even if you cancel so just pay as little as possible until October then give 30 days notice to cancel your account at the end of the year.
Guest md111 Posted March 31, 2005 Report Posted March 31, 2005 Sorry if this has already been listed but it is fairly wasy to do, all you have to do is write and let them know 4. your rights to terminate this Contract 4.1 terminating your Contract after the Minimum Term You may terminate your Contract to expire at anytime after the Minimum Term by giving us at least one month's notice. You are free to restore your Contract throughout this notice period, should you change your mind. 4.2 terminating your Contract during the Minimum Term You may terminate your Contract before the Minimum Term has expired if you pay us: 4.2.1 all Charges that are due, plus 4.2.2 a lump sum equivalent to the total of all the monthly or other periodic Charges still remaining on your initial Minimum Term agreement (except in the circumstances set out in Conditions 4.3 and 15.1). You'll be entitled to a rebate of 5% of that total if you terminate your Contract up to and including the first day of the last month of the Minimum Term.
