Guest GrayC Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 Had my MDA for a week now and I'm loving it (1gb card = loads of movies and mp3's :D ) The one thing I cant work out is the SMS messaging. Whenever I send one or receive one, I just see the number, not the contact's name. Really annoying as you cant tell who sent the message if you dont know their number.... Anyone know if its possible to sort this? Cheers, Gray
Guest Disco Stu Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 Are you storing Contact numbers in international format ? eg. UK = +44 etc
Guest GrayC Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 Are you storing Contact numbers in international format ? eg. UK = +44 etc <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Some of them are stored in international format, but not all...
Guest MitchellO Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 I have my numbers every which way (with/without brackets, dashes, international codes, area codes) and they show the persons name. Thats probably not the problem.
Guest Metoo Posted March 2, 2005 Report Posted March 2, 2005 (edited) I have my numbers every which way (with/without brackets, dashes, international codes, area codes) and they show the persons name. Thats probably not the problem. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The reason the name is not stored is that the Phone and Contacts applications do not pass the name to the SMS application, only the number. A bit lame I know, but there is a better way... The way round it is to send messages by:- 1. Open Messaging/Text Messaging. 2. Tap on the To: field – keep this highlighted. 3. Instead of selecting from the Contacts list, just tap a couple of letters on the keyboard. 4. The SMS application will pop up a window with entries matching those letters, smart search style. 5. Select from that list, or enter more letters until you find the one you want. 6. Note that the SMS application has put the number AND THE NAME into the To: field. 7. Send your message. 8. Look in your Sent folder – you’ll see your messages are listed by name! Once you get used to it, it’s far quicker to select SMS recipients this way than by doing the Contacts/Phone app Tap and Hold thing. Edited January 19, 2006 by Metoo
Guest Posted March 2, 2005 Report Posted March 2, 2005 Yep, works fine if you enter the name from the keyboard, but doesn't work if you use Transcriber - it's a pain to keep changing from one to the other just to get the name recognised!
