Guest Zeb Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 Hey, I'm having a rather big problem with my phone - Even if it isn't a problem it is worrying me! Would like to sort it out or learn why what is happening is. Basically, every so often my phone connects to GPRS. I don't know if it sending anything - All I know is that it connects. Yesterday it was connected for about 5 hours in total (Several times I manually disconnected it - Imagine the total had I not - It keeps reconnecting though... So if it helps much, I don't know). Today I had been connected for another hour - Without my say so. Now I don't know if this is costing me much but it is worrying. If GPRS is transfering constantly at full speed during these 6 hours then I've just racked up a little under 40Mb transfer... And with Orange's GPRS charges that's a hell of a lot. Does anybody know why it is doing this, and how to stop it? Should it be doing this? Or is there a problem somewhere? To be honest - I feel it must be something I have installed. If I just turn my phone on and leave it, it doesn't. After a few programs have been opened after some time it starts to do it - I therefore assume it is one of the programs I have installed. As I have installed many if this is the cause I have no idea which is causing the problem... And I'd rather not hard reset as I spent about 8 - 10 hours constantly on Sunday sorting out software for my phone, setting up the options, doing certain registry tweaks and so forth. If anybody could help that'd be great. To be honest, I'm new to smartphones and I really love what I can get this thing to do - But I can't continue with this.. I've no idea how much this is costing me.. If this continues I must scrap this phone and go and buy another phone. Something more basic... Certainly not a smartphone. Please help if you can - Save me some aggro and save me having to get a new phone! I appriciate any help. Many Thanks! Dan. PS - I have been searching for the last hour and did find quite a few posts. Some people did appear to be having the same problem yet there was never any real concise help. Here is the most informative post I found: http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=198349&st=0 Most phones I have read which have done it (Be it software or not) were Jams. My phone is a C500 so it may be related. Again, I urge you to help if you can. Thanks again!
Guest martin Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 It could be an MMS that's trying to download but having problems saving to your phone. Go into Messaging-Media Messages, Menu-Options-Account Setup-Media Messages (Phew!) and set Send/Receive to 'Manually'. If you get an SMS that says you have an MMS then thats the culprit. Try freeing up some phone memory using Space Maker in the Accessories folder. Other places to check are E-mail and activesync settings.

I tried all of these only to find it didn't work. I then decide I'd try each app at a time and see what was causing it. I found out in the end it was AgileMessenger. It appears that I was closing it by pressing the red reciever button which first disconnected the MSN messenger account, then second press disconnected GPRS then a final press hid AgileMessenger. It appears that AgileMessenger then continued to keep trying to reconnect to the services via GPRS (Hence why it continued every time I disconnected GPRS). I then decided to close via the option within the program. Not only did this log out, exit and disconnect in one movement but didn't only hide the program but closed it! This meant that it wasn't keep connecting. And due to the fact it was AgileMessenger keep connecting it has meant my GPRS bill hasn't been too high for the time when I was on it without wishing to me - Coming to only £1.50. I thank you again, for spending the time trying to help me out! Many Thanks! Dan.
Guest Confucious Posted March 2, 2005 Report Posted March 2, 2005 Glad you got it sorted and thanks for posting your solution. I always use the exit menu in agile messenger but if I do find my phone keeps on trying to connect I'll know where to look first!
