Guest ciudatelu Posted March 2, 2005 Report Posted March 2, 2005 I'm using an older ROM version.. where can I get this update everyone is talking about for my C500?

The update is from Orange UK and does not include Romanian language, nor Romanian T9. If you are determined to upgrade anyway, you can download it from here. I have installed Romanian T9 on my C500 and it works fine. If you want, I can send you the cab installer after you upgrade. Another thing to consider is that you'll have to configure yourself the GPRS settings for Orange Romania, as the UK ROM has all these for Orange UK. Maybe it is a good idea to write them down before you upgrade and post them here, maybe they would be useful for other users.
Guest ciudatelu Posted March 2, 2005 Report Posted March 2, 2005 Correct, it's from Orange Romania. Also, i've de-certed my C500, would this affect the update in any way? I think the settings can be sent automatically via OTA from the Orange Romania website (www.orange.ro - Products and services - Online services - Automatic Settings). P.S. It's gonna take a while for me to download the update, as I have a very slow external connection...... I'll be back with the news (good, i hope!) Best wishes!

BTW, how did you app unlock your phone in Romania? Another Romanian modaco member (ga!nusha) has been trying this for a loooong while and he has not succeeded (to my kowledge) so far. It would be useful if you posted here how you did it.
Guest ciudatelu Posted March 2, 2005 Report Posted March 2, 2005 (edited) It was quite simple... First of all, be sure your Internet connection (on the C500) is set to Orange Internet GPRS and the Wap Connection to Orange WAP GPRS, the services are active and working. Load a page (any page, eg. google.com) in the phone's Internet Explorer Go to the de-cert page and try decerting. Nothing will happen. You won't receive any message. That's ok... 1) http://developer.orangews.com/orgspv/comdef.aspx 2) In the "phone number" and "imei" fields, type any random text (eg. etstjitjxfgdfjhsdgsdfh) 3) you will be taken to a page where you will be able to download a small application named Orange Register, Action Register, or something like that. On that page, it also asks you for your phone number, you must type there +40 74XXXXXXX (with space between +40 and the rest of the phone number), then select "download to computer) 4) Install that app. on your phone (it is a .cab, so just place it on the phone and execute it) 5) Run the app. 6) You will see something like: Phone number: unknown (type your number, in format +4074XXXXXXX - no space this time!) IMEI Number: XXXXXXXXXXXXXX Registered: YES/NO (doesn't matter right now, 'cause your phone will eventually get registered) Lock: Running 7) Don't press the left softkey button. The phone will hang! (mine did). Just use the right softkey (Options). 8) Options - Run Lock 9) Options - Register It will take a little while, after that the Internet Explorer will show up, connect to some website and show you the message you've been waiting for: "Your phone has had its security certificate disabled" I hope it works for you as it worked for me! I did it the same here, and gainusha says he did the same, but it didn't work for him. I hope he reads this.
Guest ciudatelu Posted March 2, 2005 Report Posted March 2, 2005 I don't know, that's what they show on that page, also... that's what I did!
