Guest stianbalducci Posted March 2, 2005 Report Posted March 2, 2005 I had a verey good experience with the mpx200, and I have now ordered the mpx220. The phone arrived but had very very low speaker volume and a bad camera for having a resolution of 1,2mp. I returned my phone and the store now has problems getting me a functional one (because there are no actual dealers in Norway, except expansys). Since I had some time on my hands i looked at other models and found the Imate Jam known as qtek s100 in Norway, and it looks like a really cool phone\pocket pc. I value the possibilities of smartphones and love to watch movies and install different types of programs. Now wich phone is best suited for me? I also go partying quite often....but i could always have a party-phone(is the jam more fragile than normal phones such as mpx220) Sorry for very long post but I hope someone can help... ThanX... Stian..
Guest Disco Stu Posted March 2, 2005 Report Posted March 2, 2005 Sorry to hear about your experience with the MPx220. I'm a big fan of the Jam, but I wouldn't recommend it for speaker or camera quality. Neither is a problem but, then again, neither is a selling point. It is surprisingly tough, even without a leather case or silicon jacket. Members have managed to get significant dents in theirs without actually damaging the device's performance. For clubbing - it's not that heavy and you can carry it in a shirt pocket easily enough. It is very small for a Pocket PC. It is also pretty expensive so you'll need to be careful with it. :D For watching movies & listening to MP3s - fantastic (with headphones naturally) and only limited by your storage card size. I'm sure you already know that the range of third-party software for PPCs is huge.
Guest stianbalducci Posted March 3, 2005 Report Posted March 3, 2005 Thanx for the reply...Very helpful... Since I don't know much about ppc's i was also wondering if it can vibrate..? Silly question, but actually quite important..
Guest Disco Stu Posted March 3, 2005 Report Posted March 3, 2005 There's no such thing as a silly question. We like questions we can answer :D Yes, PPCs will vibrate for incoming calls & other notifications.
Guest stianbalducci Posted March 3, 2005 Report Posted March 3, 2005 I see that you answer quickly...thanks once again.. last question..how much can the screen handle...is it fragile in a front jeans pocket? Is the speakerphone very low compared to the mpx200?...not mpx220 when the speakerphone of the 220 didnt function properly.. :D Is it possible to install a program that makes numbers very large so that i can dial a number with my fingertip..? I asked for a pricetag on the Jam today..so that is probably the phone i'll get.
Guest Disco Stu Posted March 3, 2005 Report Posted March 3, 2005 Your screen will be fine in your jeans pocket, just as long as you don't carry coins / keys in there too. Obviously walking into furniture is a bad idea too. I've never used speakerphone but others are unimpressed. Let me see if I can get you a screenshot of the dialler pad.
Guest stianbalducci Posted March 3, 2005 Report Posted March 3, 2005 that would be great...and it could be used to dial directly onto..? what about unlocking..? I installed a strange cab file onto my old mpx200 that made it possible to install third-party programs...but the mpx220 only gave me a warning about installing third party apps... How does that work on the Jam/s100
Guest stianbalducci Posted March 3, 2005 Report Posted March 3, 2005 That should be no problem to put my finger on..:D
Guest stianbalducci Posted March 3, 2005 Report Posted March 3, 2005 Thought I should publish the question again.. what about unlocking/unblocking..? I installed a strange cab file onto my old mpx200 that made it possible to install third-party programs...but the mpx220 only gave me a warning about installing third party apps... How does that work on the Jam/s100 And hopefully the last question..Is there any difference between Qtek s100 and Imate jam? They look exactly the same and seem to have the exact same specs..

Guest stianbalducci Posted March 3, 2005 Report Posted March 3, 2005 how..? what happened..? any suggestions about buying the phone..?
Guest Chaser81 Posted March 3, 2005 Report Posted March 3, 2005 (edited) Dont know, just got two price chucks taken out of the bottom of it. Still, never mind. Back on topic, I would heartily recommend the Jam/MDA Compact/XDA II Mini or whichever version you decide to buy, its a brilliant little phone! Texting on it is... different compared to a Smartphone but you quickly learn to adapt. Speakerphone facility is adequate for the limited times I have used it and I have had no complaints from people I talk to about the audio quality. With the volume turned all the way up on a call, sound can sometimes distort, but if you have the volume all the way up, you wont notice as your ears will start to bleed, this thing can be VERY loud. There is a wealth of 3rd party software available (more than Smartphone) and this thing just looks cool. Go buy one, there is no excuse for not owning one!! :cheesy: Just be careful with yours! Guest stianbalducci Posted March 3, 2005 Report Posted March 3, 2005 Well it's settled then...Almost can't wait...will get the pricetag tomorrow from the store i bought the mpx220 from...so i'll probably get it cheaper..so it will probably show up outside my door in a week or so... Sorry to hear about yout phone.. Thanks to both of you...you have made my choice very easy..:D
Guest En_croute Posted March 3, 2005 Report Posted March 3, 2005 As alternative free dialer, with bigger buttons, there's D9 D9 @ Handango
Guest Disco Stu Posted March 3, 2005 Report Posted March 3, 2005 We still haven't answered your question though  I bought mine SIM-free from the MoDaCo shop so there was no application lock. This is only put on by the networks. I can therefore install anything without even a prompt and use whoever's SIM card I like. I'm not familiar with the QTek, but I assume it's just another HTC Magician with a different badge. @Chaser81 : sorry mate :D
Guest stianbalducci Posted March 3, 2005 Report Posted March 3, 2005 Again I thank all of you.. What sites are good for pocket pc freeware downloads..?
Guest MitchellO Posted March 6, 2005 Report Posted March 6, 2005 www.pocketpcfreeware.com has some decent freeware. And I absolutely love my XDA II Mini + Sandisk WiFi. Internet/Email/MSN wherever!!
