Pop email problems on I-Mate Jam

I have experienced a strange bug with receiving email via POP from Gmail on my Jam. When you hit "send and receive", it logs into the account fine, downloads the emails that are waiting up to the kb limit you specified in settings...

Today, I had a couple of emails that I needed to read all the way through, so I hit Tools and then "Mark for Download". The phone then proceeded to connect back to my account and download the full email to my device, all fine so far.

The problem is, as soon as I did my next "send and receive", all the emails where I had chosen to download the full email disappeared completely. I didnt delete them or anything, they just vanished.

I tried it again on an email I sent to myself. If you download the header, then choose to download the full mail, then do a send and receive, the email you just downloaded disappears by itself.

Getting really worried about those mails which have vanished, two were really important.... They had better still be on the server when I get home otherwise I will be really annoyed.

Can someone try this on their Jam/MDA Compact and see if they get the same result?

There's a GMail setting that specifies to Keep/Archive/Delete Gmails once accessed by POP.

Log into Gmail, Settings, Forwarding & POP.

Is this the cause ?

No, dont think so.

I have Outlook set up at home as well, and when I access Gmail via that, it pulls the email from the server and stores it locally on my PC... On this basis, the PPC should also download the email and store it locally, but whats happening is that its downloading it to the PPC, and then on the next "send and receive" cycle, the emails are disappearing completely, both from Gmail's server AND from my PPC.

EDIT: Tried one of my other POP accounts and it didnt do the same thing, so it is an issue with Gmail.

En_Croute, I will try your suggestion that it might be a settings problem when I get home (Cant access GMail from work).

I've noticed that the Gmail settings don't appear to work with the MDA POP mail.

They are all UN-archived, but I set them to archive once downloaded.

Possibly the "I've finished the downloaded sequence" command is only given when the account is activly disconnected (Accounts menu on MDA Menu), and that removing it from the network (removing the USB, disconnecting GPRS) disconnects without a proper sign-off and so Gmail does not do the Archive.

None of this however would account for your disapearing mails.

Do report back!

Well, finally got around to checking my POP account with Gmail on my desktop PC and sure enough, it has deleted all trace of those two emails completely because they didnt download with the rest of my mail. Well annoyed, but at least I know now not to do that again!
