On the phone go to Settings\Data Connections and select internet to Automatic then with the phone plugged in and Activsync running you should then be able to use your pc's internet connection.

Not sure what you mean by this?

i have the usb cable, my computer has verizon dsl

Just checking you have Activsync running? also do not use a USB hub as that can cause problems and check your firewall settings (should be ok if you can sync etc).

Another thing to try is put the phone in flight Mode (radio off) and then power off, remove the SIM power on and then see if you can connect. That way the phone has no choice but to use passthrough.

apart from setting Data connection to Automatic do you have the option to choose Passtrough instead?

It's only Internet selection you need to look at and there should be a choice of three options,

GPRS

Automatic

Passthrough
