My C500 headset profile has become permanently switched on. I have tried many ways of fixing the problem; except Defaulting, to no avail. I use the headphones (supplied) alot and wonder if this is an reoccuring problem. Did some searches but found nothing to help me. Any ideas. I will have to get a new phone otherwise.

The SPV classic did a similar thing when it first came out. Has somthing to do with the headphone socket.

One of the techniques to resolve this was to poke a toothpick/cocktail stick into the socket for the headphones. Another method was to plug the headphone in firmly and then pull out quickly.

Hope this helps.

Ok. I did some extensive research into this problem and it is more common than I suspected. It has been known since it's release and seems to happen with older variants as well. Obviously I did not want order a new phone as it would take ages to reconfigure again. Anyway in case anyone is interested this is how I cured the problem.

WD40 and using the exsting headphones to waggle about a bit. Highly technical but nothing worked until I used the WD40. No point working away with registries and such. Maty be this should be added to the list of bugs!

I had this problem, and it is indeed down to wear and tear on the headphone socket (I use them lots for playing music but take them out for answering calls). Orange swapped it over no problem.

The headset issue is one thing that Orange do class as a fault - it's a known problem (I had it with my 1st handset) that they normally remedy with a handset replacement.

I had same problem, with the headset profile being permanently on since using the earphones which came with the phone. I fixed the problem by reinstalling the operator ROM from Orange:

It did mean backing up important files and I had to reinstall my programs, but it seemed easier then asking Orange for a new phone! BTW I tried the WD40 thing posted in an earlier reply, and surprise surprise it didn't work, goes to show the lengths that I will go to!

I second that: it's a software problem. Hard reset fixed it for me - twice already. Now I don't bother anymore and just leave it on this profile. I can still edit it to suit my needs.

:) Here's a tip that may help any other sufferers of this problem. I spoke with HTC Tech Support who informed me that this is a common problem. They told me to try spraying a small amount of WD40 (Spray Oil) onto the jack plug of my headphones and then inserting into the phone a few times. The penetrating oil free'd up the stuck contact inside the socket after about 10 minutes. It worked :D !! If it didn't, they informed me that the handset would have to be returned to them to have a new socket fitted.

Be sparing with the oil and don't spray it on your phone!!

Hope this helps

Good luck
