Hello!!!

I am a great fan of the internet game counter strike 1.6. I think it is the best thing since sliced bread! I was just wondering if anyone feels the same or just plays the game.

I'm a lot better at dust than dust2 for some reason. I also like compound for a good sniping match! Other than that piranese is good fun as is cbble, m4-fests all the way!

Also, i assume we're all talking about Counterstrike Source here, and not actually 1.6? I assumed that dies back in November ;p

NB: Chaser81: you'll be lucky to get notable fps improvement from changing to SATA from PATA!

CS Source all the way - when buying my new rig a few months back CS did influence my choice of parts a Lot!

Went for S-ATA RAID :D, 1Gb Dual Channel DDR400, 64bit AMD Winchester 3000 (desperatly trying to overclock to 3800) and kept my trusted Radeon 9800 SE modded to none pro standard.

Anyone upgraded to PCI-E and noticed vast difference in performance on CS?

I have a similar rig, just with a PCIE 6800 GT :D. SATA won't give you massive improvement in performance, if any. I'm waiting on the new 300Mb/s standard SATA drives then i'll chuck my 300GB one for a couple of 160's to raid up.

PCIE, tbh i have no comparison. With everything high, 12x10 resolution, 4 and 8 (i think) AA and AF i get 60-100+ fps, which perfectly acceptable for that card.

I probably wouldnt have noticed the improvement in frame rate from my new S-ATA drive, you are right, but I also slapped in 1GB of Dual Channal PC3200 Ram and that helped a LOT!!

On my old rig, I used to get 40-50fps (1024x768 with AA off and AF off), but with my new Mobo, HDD and RAM I get 90-100fps with (1024x768 with 2xAA and 2xAF). Big improvement.
