Guest DJHope Posted January 16, 2003 Report Posted January 16, 2003 Is that all i need to start developing? I dont need visual studio/visual c++ do i?
Guest Kallisti Posted January 16, 2003 Report Posted January 16, 2003 Nah, just eVC3 and the SDK and you're set.
Guest spacemonkey Posted January 16, 2003 Report Posted January 16, 2003 eVC3 is part of the eMbedded Visual Studio 3.0 download from microsoft (or disks in MSDN if you have access to that). When installing it don't bother with eMbedded Visual Basic or any of the other SDKs if you're only wanting to do Smartphone work.
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 16, 2003 Report Posted January 16, 2003 Shame SmartPhone doesn't support eVB! P
Guest spacemonkey Posted January 16, 2003 Report Posted January 16, 2003 The thing is that Smartphone devices aren't incredibly powerful, so they probably left support out cos eVB will have significantly higher overheads.
Guest dchurch24 Posted January 16, 2003 Report Posted January 16, 2003 Won't you still be bound by the certification thing though - for your own applications.
Guest spacemonkey Posted January 16, 2003 Report Posted January 16, 2003 Won't you still be bound by the certification thing though - for your own applications. Wake up... the certification has been resolved in big obvious threads and news articles everywhere. Developement on a casual basis can commence. (but not in VB cos it's not supported)
Guest dchurch24 Posted January 16, 2003 Report Posted January 16, 2003 Sorry. I'm just a little bit scared of removing the cert. stuff on my phone in case I cock it all up! I thought that for your own dev. it may not apply.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted January 16, 2003 Report Posted January 16, 2003 The current certificaion is generic. And if you're worried about trying, providing you follow the instructions correctly you will be fine. At worse your phone will be reset to its -out-of-the-box state...
Guest dchurch24 Posted January 16, 2003 Report Posted January 16, 2003 so presumably, I could use the Orange backup utility to restore all my contacts etc...after the phone returns to te 'out-of-the-box' state?
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted January 16, 2003 Report Posted January 16, 2003 Or Activesync, but yus you can.
Guest Kallisti Posted January 16, 2003 Report Posted January 16, 2003 Or just use ActiveSync. My Outlook on the desktop is what has my contact DB anyway..
Guest dchurch24 Posted January 16, 2003 Report Posted January 16, 2003 right, that's it then. I'm going for it tonight. Expect to see some very badly written (to start with :-) c++ coded apps for the spv.
Guest Kallisti Posted January 16, 2003 Report Posted January 16, 2003 It's hard to write VC++ badly. If it works, typically it'll do ;) If it doesn't it won't compile and it's not an app
Guest DJHope Posted January 16, 2003 Report Posted January 16, 2003 Thanks guys, now off to polish up on my c++ ;)
Guest dchurch24 Posted January 17, 2003 Report Posted January 17, 2003 yeah, fair play. I'm actually a Java/VB programmer, so the transition shouldn't be too hard! (he says hopefully!)
Guest WillEastbury Posted March 13, 2003 Report Posted March 13, 2003 right, that's it then. I'm going for it tonight. Expect to see some very badly written (to start with :-) c++ coded apps for the spv. Wait till you see some of mine I'm gonna try and write once I learn this, betcha they're worse ! (I was previously a VB / Smalltalk Programmer)
