i found this sweet app on handango that turns your ppc into an ipod clone.

the navigation seems to work ok and you can disable the screen while playing music att he same time. very handy

does anyone know how to set up specific folders as the music starting directory?

Dunno, I use MortPlayer which is free and does similar things. It takes you through setting up folders, and lists them as albums.
