Guest glasgowrangersfc Posted March 8, 2005 Report Posted March 8, 2005 Hi....Newbie here, so please be gentle. I got my SPV C500 a few weeks ago and noticed the Try Card that came with it wasn't working in the phone. As I wasn't interested in the software on this card I didn't give it a second thought. I've now got myself a 512mb mini SD card and have connected phone to computer. In Active Sync I've synchronised, gone into explore and, from other posts, I believe I'm supposed to see a Storage Card option to copy files into. Its not there. :D I've tried re-inserting the mini SD card and it fit fine. Could there be a problem with the phone, in view of the problem with the Try Card, I wonder? Any suggestions gratefully received. Thanks in advance.
Guest scm7rap Posted March 8, 2005 Report Posted March 8, 2005 It does sound like there may be a prob with the phones card slot if you have tried to access two cards and failed. I take it you cannot see them through the phones file manager either? When you bought your 512mb sd card, did it come with an expansion piece to convert it into a full sized sd card? If so I suggest using this to rty your cards with a car reader or another device that uses sd cards. If you have one. They will probably be seen no probs. If this is the case I suggest taking the phone back to where you got it from and getting a new one.
Guest glasgowrangersfc Posted March 8, 2005 Report Posted March 8, 2005 Thanks scm7rap :D Nope, I can't see it through the file manager. Its as if the phone just doesn't recognise any card. I should have thought of trying out mini SD card in my camera. I've now done this and the card works fine. As I bought the phone over the net (good deal - 12 months line rental refund 8) ) getting it back is not that easy. I've looked at the paperwork and the retailer needs me to get a fault reference code from Orange before returning the phone. Spent an hour :x on the phone to Orange customer services and was ping ponged around before someone in Handset Faults Dept. said they would report it to Technical Services who would contact me. As this is day 28 since phone first registered they may try to attempt repair - but I'll fight the good fight. One thing is clear - after 12 months contract is up, bye bye Orange, hello Virgin with phone unlocked.
Guest glasgowrangersfc Posted March 17, 2005 Report Posted March 17, 2005 Well I've managed to get a replacement phone :D ....but the new one has the same problem :?: Now it seems to me that there are 3 options here;- 1. I'm a very unlucky person and got the only 2 SPV C500s in existence with the same problem. 2. There are an awful lot of these phones with this problem. 3. I'm doing something wrong  Just to pursue option 3 - maybe it would be best to explain exactly what I'm doing, just in case I'm getting it wrong somewhere. First I tried the Try Card (mini SD card) which came with the phone. Got the contacts gold to gold and the battery and cover back on. The instructions say to access the Try Card via Orange menu. I try and there's nothing there. Tried also through File Manager and no sign of the Try Card. Next I try my 512mb mini SD Card....contacts again gold to gold, flicked over the silver holder, got battery and cover back on. Checked file manager - no sign of storage card. Synchronised phone and went in through explore - again no sign of storage card  Is there anything I'm doing wrong - I'm new to this? Or am I just unlucky?
Guest Confucious Posted March 17, 2005 Report Posted March 17, 2005 Not sure how you can get it wrong but are you sliding the card under the gold bit by the contacts so it lies flat and the silver clip can slide across from the right? I've not heard of anyone else having this problem. Is there an O shop near you or another phone shop that sells the C500 where you could go and ask if you could try one of their cards or try your card in one of their phones? It does seem a bit of a coincidence getting 2 faulty phones with the same, previously unheard of, fault.
Guest glasgowrangersfc Posted March 17, 2005 Report Posted March 17, 2005 are you sliding the card under the gold bit by the contacts UNDER, UNDER    No I wasn't. Just looked at Orange's instructions and it doesn't suggest the need to slide the card under anything :D Reckoned it must have been something I'm doing wrong  Many thanks Confucious....now works like a dream :D

It works for a few goes then suddenly, even though it says i have 417 minutes of video left, the phone tells me "insufficient Memory" and cuts out after a few seconds. If I power down my phone it works fine again for a few hours. My standard card works ok so it would apear that maybe the 512 card is faulty. Going to try to change my 512 card to check or get some way to format this one.

It sounds to me like you are trying to film and it is using the phones internal memory to buffer the video and this is what you are running out of, not a card problem at all. I could be wrong tho'.

Also the new silver phone orange kindly supplied seems to have the MMS video option removed from the capture menu. Does orange need to switch this on or is the silver c500 not equiped. Little frustrating these c500`s.

Guest Confucious Posted March 27, 2005 Report Posted March 27, 2005 When you film video it buffers it to the phone's mempry before saving it to the card. You are running out of phone memory, it is nothing to do with the card. glasgowrangersfc's problem was nothing to do with the make of the card, he just wasn't installing it properly.
Guest glasgowrangersfc Posted March 29, 2005 Report Posted March 29, 2005 It wasn`t a Kingspan 512 card you bought from the net was it? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes it was but, as the wise one said, the problem was with the dolt installing the card  The card is fine now :D I hope that your problem is now solved too :D
