Guest Dr_StrangeTrick Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 Just been doing a bit of searching for some usable POI's and came across this site Usualy POI downloads tend to be a bit lame but this place has a massive database and quite up to date. Downloads are in TomTom ASC format but if you jump to page 17 of this thread you can download my guide. You can then convert this to TomTom OV2, Mapopolis MLP etc.
Guest chucky.egg Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 That's a huge collection (assuming there are POIs in each of the categories) They also have a link to a tool which converts ASC to OV2, which is nice In order to use the POI data with TomTom, you first need to convert it into OV2 file format. You can download a tool here which will do this for you - simply drag the text file (extension ASC) onto the icon and two files will be created, with extensions BMP and OV2. Copy these two files into your TomTom map folder to use them.
Guest Dr_StrangeTrick Posted March 12, 2005 Report Posted March 12, 2005 Hi Chucky.Egg I did notice their own conversion but all this allows you to do is to convert. The advantage over my method is that you can edit the files. I personally do not want loads of small POI files :D so with the restaurants I have put all the Chinese, Indian, Pizza, Pub food etc into one single POI with Indian, etc as separate category’s listed making it easier :D
