For a long time now Fizz traveller has been the must have application for many smartphone users who travel internationally on a regular basis, however now there is a competitor:

Lod , Israel  March 16, 2004 – MobiMate, the leading provider of travel services for mobile devices, announced today that WorldMate®, the award-winning business-travel service, now supports Windows Mobile-based Smartphones.

WorldMate is an all-in-one package for the frequent business traveler, featuring essential services including world time, global weather forecasts (provided by The Weather Channel – weather.com), real-time flight status updates (provided by OAG WorldWide), currency and measurement converters and more. I have used Worldmate quite some time for my Pocket PC and 6600.

For smarphone some improvement still required.

Some bug still there - notice for "currency" can not be quit, and other module not spontaneous quit, soft key indicate "service" but actually it is return (back). No "exit"

Shall click "back" to switch to the other tab

Too expensive !!!

Compare to Fizz travel (Ft) it is faster in downloading "weather and currency" and update the whole rather than city by city or country by country as Ft does. But no alarm & itinerary setting and Ft has.

I think that potential buyers should be aware that WolrdMate is a subscription-based product. The price you pay seems to cover only one year of usage:

Q: Why is WorldMate 2005 a subscription based product?

WorldMate 2005 provides users with real-time, reliable, award-winning travel management services. The yearly subscription packages ensure that users receive access to new services and features, which are added to WorldMate 2005 each year, making it a continuously evolving mobile travel companion.

New device support and technical capabilities are added to coincide with device manufacture releases, and additional content delivery services are also added each year based on demands, requests and feedback from users around the world.

Q: What is the subscription policy for WorldMate 2005 Edition?

The current subscription policy for WorldMate 2005 is based on a yearly subscription which will expire one calendar year from the date of subscription. In order to continue using the WorldMate 2005 service after the one year expiration, you will need to re-subscribe to the product.

Fizz Traveller 2 seems to have more functions, as Jacobus pointed out, and it is a one-off purchase, having the weather, currency and airport delay updates for free.

That's not true; There's the menu option "Fetch All Cities" to do just that!

What does mean "fetch all cities"? Does it update also for other cities which not selected to display? Is it retain for next viewing after change to other city which not selected before?

Fozzie - sorry to but in here.

Fetch all cities will fetch the forecasts for your 6 selected cities - not just the one currently displayed. All forecasts are cached locally on the device and used until they are no longer valid. Apart from the weather update options - manual fetch & scheduled fetch in the product today - an automatic activesync based update will be added to the product soon.

Glad to hear coming version will do. I wish to have Worldmap view can accomodate not only the "default" selected (6) cities but "on call or ad hoc" selected". Also the currency display that not one to other one currency but at least to two or three currencies at the same time.

You have inlcuded already the setting with "what network to use" (i.e. internet or work". The problem is that most people set ActiveSync to connect to "The Internet", to be able to browse the web while in bed etc.

It would be really cool if you could use the DC info you use for timers as a condition for updating (i.e. an additional setting "Internet + DC"). This way I could leave my C500 plugged in over night in the USB, to charge and to update the weather at 6am.

An even cooler thing to do (I know I'm asking for too much  ) would be to initiate automatically a Bluetooth ActiveSync connection at a specified time and update the weather and currency this way.

We will certainly consider the requests you have for future versions. We welcome all comments. The currency comment is something that we've been asked for before, so is heading up the list.

Using the auto update feature - if the device is in the cradle at 6am & active sync is running & the connection on the device is automatic it will naturally use pass-through to update the weather/rates.

We are working on better autoupdate syncing options for future version. A Bluetooth connection is a good idea. The first feature to come will will be the activesync detection - so your weather is updated everytime the device is sync'd.

My idea was that the device should sync at the set time, but only if in the cradle. Now, if I set it for 6am and I forget to plug it in the USB, it will go through GPRS.

You've seen probably on this forum that a lot of people would buy Fizz Traveller if not scared of potential GPRS costs. This is why I think you should provide this "safe" update mode, in which, at the set hour, it will sync the weather only if plugged in.

About automatically updating when plugging the device to USB, this should be somehow conditioned by the time, and here's why: If I update it at 10pm today, it will show me on the home screen N M A E, but the days will be shown as Fri Sat, which is not really nice. Well, you don't have enough space and that's why you need to do it like this, but... the morning is not on Friday. Hence my thing with updating early in the morning, so I get M A E N and Sat Sat.

About the plugin, do you think you could provide more customisation options, like background to be transparent when selected and posibility to have no outline? I've made a home screen using the plugin (here) and it would be really great to have these two things fixed.

Tudor,

Nice theme. All of your comments are valid and we will do our best to get as many of them as possible in to a future release.
