Guest rborhara Posted March 18, 2005 Report Posted March 18, 2005 Guys im in the U.k and won a Motorola MPX220 mobile phone - Motorola sponsored this phone during a race day at silverstone after a seminar. Anyway this phone says engineering sample on the back, came with power adapter, battery and case cover, however i am missing SD ram, Mini USB/sync Connection cable and manual and CD The manual ive downloaded, Where can I get the CD from as i will be missing the apps from here. Is there something i have to be vary off from a Engineering sample compared to a realeased phone? Also is 512mb minsd the maximum that can be installed on this phone or do the new 1gb sd minis work? Would this phone support the miniSD with wifi cards? Also when testing the phone the volume on full but it sounded rubbish is this normal for the phone - Or will the firmware update fix this as mentioned on some threads. Finally can anyone recommend some good MPx220 sites / smartphone apps sites as motorolas Website doesnt have anything on a MPX220 yes except a manual but Modaco is a good read though - trying to get my head around all the differnet groups though
Guest stevem999 Posted March 18, 2005 Report Posted March 18, 2005 Firstly, apologies that I can't give you too much help on cables etc, suffice to say that Modaco is a top site for smartphones and you're sure to find all the help you need. For other usueful sites, check out the links section on the left hand side of the front page! Secondly - how absolutely supremely generous of Motorola to give away crappy unfinished buggy engineering samples as prizes - must have cost them all of a fiver! I'm sure their name was plastered everywhere at your seminar and that's what they give away as prizes! You should call Moto and get a replacement and tell them not to be so bloody tight next time! Rant over.
Guest rborhara Posted March 18, 2005 Report Posted March 18, 2005 (edited) Ok didnt realise engineering samples are that bad - I wonder if I would get any warranty with them and get them replaced once the official one are released. however I would have thought if the fones are released in the USA and other parts of europe then the hardwares OK, just the firmware needs updating as and when in which case i dont mind.[ quote=stevem999,Mar 18 2005, 14:17]Firstly, apologies that I can't give you too much help on cables etc, suffice to say that Modaco is a top site for smartphones and you're sure to find all the help you need. Guest roma0803 Posted March 18, 2005 Report Posted March 18, 2005 (edited) Well, the cable you can find at Expansys. At Cellular Nationwide Network you can find the rest, even casing to get rid of the words "Engineering Sample". It's most likely your ROM is outdated. Hang around the Motorola site until they put the ROM update online again, it might work for you though it's for another network. But you could try. As for the CD? I don't think there's much on it except Outlook. The Mini SD card is not part of the standard package. I don't know if a 1GB card will work, I guess it will. Not much available yet so no user experiences out there. Watch it if it's a SanDisk though, read a lot about problems with that brand. Edited March 18, 2005 by roma0803

Guest awarner [MVP] Posted March 20, 2005 Report Posted March 20, 2005 Outlook is a commercial licenced product for the PC and not the Smartphone. It's not cheap if you have to buy it as a seperate piece of software. http://www.microsoft.com/uk/office/outlook...fault.mspx#ECAA http://www.pricegrabber.co.uk/search_getpr...ft+outlook+2003
