Guest stugee Posted March 18, 2005 Report Posted March 18, 2005 Grrrrr... Got my TomTom software today and installed onto phone. Got a GPS device from Ebay. The GPS is picking up the satalites, The phone is picking up the GPS unit but TomTom is stating that the "GPS signal was lost XXsec ago"! I've tried changing the name of the GPS unit to "TomTom Wireless GPS" to no avail... I was looking at the install guide and it tells you to disable com7, how do you do this? How do you know what the passkey for the GPS unit is? Fairly simple questions to some out there, but very frustrating to me. Thanks in advance for any help. Stuart
Guest chucky.egg Posted March 18, 2005 Report Posted March 18, 2005 If you use the TT GPS device it's much easier, but if (like me) you prefer to use another GPS then: Pair your GPS as "TomTom Wireless GPS" Turn ON inbound on COM6 Turn ON outbound on COM7 Rename the "23577" folder in your /Storage Card (I guessed the folder name cos I've actullay deleted it from mine, but it's something like that) Start TomTom and it should work The 23577 (or whatever it is) folder includes and autorun that kept screwing up the pairing with my GPS (I've got an EMTAC CruxII) so removing it should stop it removing the pairing and trying to create a new one.
Guest chucky.egg Posted March 18, 2005 Report Posted March 18, 2005 Under /Configurations/Bluetooth Serial Ports The passkey for the pairing is normally on the manufacturers website, but are often things like 0000 or 1111
Guest stugee Posted March 18, 2005 Report Posted March 18, 2005 Cheers mate, got it working... Now I'm the envy of all my work colleagues!!!
Guest beersoft Posted March 18, 2005 Report Posted March 18, 2005 hmm how did you manage to buy tomtom without the GPS? later Owen
Guest chucky.egg Posted March 18, 2005 Report Posted March 18, 2005 You can't can you? Have they started selling it as a software-only package? I'm thinking about getting TT Mobile 5 (not sure if there's enough advantage really) but I don't want yet another GPS
Guest stugee Posted March 21, 2005 Report Posted March 21, 2005 I bought the software off of ebay then bought a separate gps from ebay.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted March 21, 2005 Report Posted March 21, 2005 In other words an unlicenced copy as the licence states that it is not transferable.
Guest chucky.egg Posted March 21, 2005 Report Posted March 21, 2005 If you look at eBay now there are at least 2 copies for sale as the software only (one of which has a "this is a backup copy" sort of cop out at the end). Those are presumably being sold that way because the seller is using TTM and needs the GPS. Theft basically. The thing is that it's a great app, and if they were more flexible then they'd lose fewer sales to the pirates (there'll always be somepeople happy to steal software). I'm not condoning it, but I don't have a huge amount of sympathy for TomTom TBH.
Guest aaandymc Posted March 25, 2005 Report Posted March 25, 2005 Just wanted to say thanks for the tip on using ttmobile with other BT Gps receivers I already have a Bt receiver and get annoyed that TomTom do not offer their software without a bt receiver. all other software producers in this market offer software only pakages. i think Tom tom have shot themselves in the foot with this tie up

Guest chucky.egg Posted April 4, 2005 Report Posted April 4, 2005 @Fly98 That's the autorun that screws with your BT settings, mine did a similar thing too. If you rename the 2577 folder (to anything you want that doesn't already exist) it will stop doing it.

If I don't change the name on paring.... the gps isn't cancelled .... but... it's no aviable in TomTom... ... wath can i do??? Thanks for your help (and for your patience with my english). Fil
Guest chucky.egg Posted April 4, 2005 Report Posted April 4, 2005 1) Leave your GPS device witched off 2) Make sure TomTom is not running 3) Rename the 2577 folder to something else 4) Delete the current BT pairing for your GPS 5) Disable the serial ports (Communications - BT SerialPortSetup) 6) Enable the serial ports (should prompt you to pair with a device, in which case re-pair your GPS and call it "TomTom Wireless GPS") 7) Restart your phone

I'm disperated!! Every time that TomTom Start.... de GPS device is deleted!.
Guest Fly98 Posted April 4, 2005 Report Posted April 4, 2005 Does it work with the TomTom GPS? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It still not worked.... :D((( I'm trying for 2 days!!!.... in some other post suggest to make a hard reset... and don't rename the gps device... mah....
Guest chucky.egg Posted April 4, 2005 Report Posted April 4, 2005 With your TomTom GPS device you should delete any existing pairing and reboot the phone, TT handles everything else (assuming the 2577 folder exists) It's much easier, but if you want to use a specific GPS device you have to go through the hassle of setting it up first time around.
Guest Fly98 Posted April 4, 2005 Report Posted April 4, 2005 I have lost my original TomTom device... :D( it was stealed in Agypt... I have buyed a compatible GPS device at 140€ .... 299€ another time for original GPS device it was too much for me!!!! I Have tryed all of procedures that have seen in a lot of post.... but still don't work... renamin GPS device it will deleted on start of TOmTom ... not renaming..... it isn't deleted but it don't work ... :D( .... perhaps it is better that I wait for new version (5) of TTM :D
Guest maga77 Posted April 16, 2005 Report Posted April 16, 2005 Some news ?! I'm italian too, and I've got same problem!! :x I tried also to modify registry in my motorola MPX220, but nothing changed Is it possible? :|
Guest cliffbarrimore Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 Hi All Same problem here with my E200, as soon as I name the device TomTom Wireless GPS is gets deleted from the bonded devices list when I start tomtom. called anything else it stays bonded, very frustrating, I have also found that renaming the autorun dir and restarting the phone, the tomtom software disappears, I have made a shortcut to get round this, but I still loose the bonding...any suggestions..... thanks
Guest roma0803 Posted May 4, 2005 Report Posted May 4, 2005 Well, same here. Can't get TomTom to work with a new GPS receiver (the original TomTom one drowned some time ago ;) ) Tried all the above options but no-go.
