Guest Perfectionist Posted March 18, 2005 Report Posted March 18, 2005 (edited) In say 2010, when HTC has pretty much perfected the JAM or its other devices - who would bother buying ..... any other Cell Phone = goodbye Nokia Motorola etc any other PDA = goodbye HP Ipaq Dell etc any other Digital Camera = goodbye Nikon Canon etc any other MP3/Media player = goodbye Apple Ipod Creative etc any other Portable Gaming console = goodbye Nintendo Sony etc any other GPS unit = goodbye Globalsat Garmin etc I guess HTC will either merge or buy up all these other firms and dominate the world, Microsoft style ! Well good cos HTC kick ass :D Edited March 18, 2005 by Perfectionist
Guest chucky.egg Posted March 18, 2005 Report Posted March 18, 2005 Eh? You're joking right? There's no such things as perfection, so they'll never get there, and even if they did it doesn't mean that any other companies will disappear as a result. Anyways even if it all happened Sony and Nikon etc would just buy shares in dust removal equipment and make a killing!
Guest Disco Stu Posted March 18, 2005 Report Posted March 18, 2005 Nokia will go back to what they do best - making toilet paper & rubber wellies :D
Guest Drewtech Posted March 18, 2005 Report Posted March 18, 2005 Phones will never have the lense capabilities to be serious digital cameras. They will almost certainly remove the low end of the market but nothing else. There will always be people who want a PPC size device rather than a smartphone size one and there will alwyas be people who won't by anything with a Microsoft Operating system on it. Finally, these days, trying to predict 10 years ahead with technology is like trying to predict 50 years ahead was in 1900.

Well good cos HTC kick ass :D <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You juse assume that the other companies will freeze their development process and only HTC will continue to bring something new... Think of these:  Nokia will addopt WM for their handsets and will work together with MS to improve its usability, making great companion devices, not only phones  Nikon will release the first 3D capture camera able to create virtual models for you to display in the holographic 3D projector in your living room  Apple will create the first mp3 player based on brain-induced sound sensation, with no need for earphones  There will be no need for GPS as the ubiquitous interconnected location sensors will take the lead
Guest Perfectionist Posted March 18, 2005 Report Posted March 18, 2005 (edited) Yes all very true but I still see HTC as leading the way and all the other manufacturers playing catch-up - some even giving up playing and licensing HTC to make their handsets like Siemens !! Unless these companies do come up with new and radical technology (which in all liklihood they will) then their survival in the present form will be very difficult.... Personally I think consolidation is the future of business - HP buying Compaq, Sony merging with Ericsson etc - eventually their will be only a handful of companies servicing every sector of industry and maybe even a few which grow into global monopolies like M$ ..... PS - Drewtech, Samsung have already revealed a 7MP Camera on one of their upcoming phones :D http://www.dpreview.com/news/0503/05030901...ung_schv770.asp Edited March 18, 2005 by Perfectionist
Guest tudor Posted March 18, 2005 Report Posted March 18, 2005 Drewtech, Samsung have already revealed a 7MP Camera on one of the upcoming phones :D <{POST_SNAPBACK}> They should understand that the quality of a camera is not measured in megapixels, but in the quality of the optics. As Drewtech said, the phones will lag behind with the optics and, when they'll get close, it will not matter any more, as the 3D imaging will come into scene :D
Guest Perfectionist Posted March 18, 2005 Report Posted March 18, 2005 (edited) So then HTC will introduce 3D imaging as well .... doh !! As the above article says - it took the Camera industry years to reach 7MP while the Mobile industry (Samsung) has got there much faster - OK they didnt have to spend as much time on R&D as the Camera companies did it for them so I guess they just copied the technology and modified it for their own devices..... but so what !! Long Live the Super Convergence Device !! Resistance is Futile !! :D Edited March 18, 2005 by Perfectionist

Photography is a sideline of mine and whilst I would expect to be able to get decent snapshots from futere phone cameras it will not replace my other 'real' cameras.
Guest peekie Posted March 18, 2005 Report Posted March 18, 2005 if this was true perfection that would also kill modaco   everyone loves a bug on a phone gives us something to talk about :D :D :D
