spv hard reset/ custom apps?

I've spent many hours reading the articles/ tutorials and have a few good ?'s

i had recently purchased a classic spv from a buddy, it tweaked out on me and i had to do a hard reset, i now have to application unlock my phone, and instead of re installing the old apps i had from my buddy (few years old )

he had the spv for two years and never did a rom update,

if i updated the rom would this fix my app lagg problem as well as my random missing app problem?

i was also wondering what are the new apps and the pros and cons of each

example:

reg edit .... old hard to understand

dbviewwsp... new and fixes the sms phantom problem

pocket tv?? any other players ? is there a player to handle both music and movies in one??

what about smart explorer? is there a newer and better file explorer app??

i'm new so i'm sorry if this is grey or black area questions .... and what is grey and what is black areas??

P.S. i'm stuck in the us where we are still mostly ignorant of smart phones

any one else from the us?? let me know

You don't say which operator ROM you currently have installed, but the most recent Orange ROM upgrade is here.

I can't remember what it fixes so can't help you with that.

As for apps etc; if you're referring to PHM's registry editor, then there is no newer version but it still works the same.

A popular media player is BetaPlayer.

The best explorer and task manager are still those from Binarys.

Otherwise have a look at sites like Handango, Smartphone.net, Airfagev for the current range of software.

i am currently running romupdate versions:

operator: 1.5.0.3

manufacturer 1.5.0.3

if i'm correct the newest is 1.6 ??

and i can get a hold of reg edit but i'm afraid to use it .... i may lock up my phone again .... and have to hard reset once more ....

and i am gonna check out beta player and smart explorer as well

1.6 is the latest ROM from Orange, with the reg edit app as long as you know what you are doing and follow instructions you should be fine.

A safer way is to use RJV RegTweaks it has some ready made tweaks which can save you all the hard.
