Guest andysalmon Posted March 20, 2005 Report Posted March 20, 2005 On my Compact, the manual says to switch off by holding the power button for two seconds but this only switches off the screen (PDA) and not the phone. There are no other instructions. Do I always have to switch onto flight mode and then "power down" if I want the Compact off?
Guest Hainsey Posted March 20, 2005 Report Posted March 20, 2005 You cant turn it off only flight mode ( turns phone functions off) or screen. Pocket PC devices just dont switch off basically. Unless of course your battery runs down, in which case get to a charger quick before your back up battery dies and you lose absolutley everything saved on your device. Sorry
Guest En_croute Posted March 20, 2005 Report Posted March 20, 2005 Think of the phone and PDA as two seperate devices in one. The PDA is switched off by pressing the power. Press the power for 2 seconds, and the backlight goes off, but he PDA stays on. The phone is never "switched off", but can be de-activated by initiating "Flight mode". This allows you to use the PDA with no fear of bringing down the airplane you are travelling in :D The PDA will be operational - so WiFi via an SDIO card will still work. The more you switch off, the longer the battery will last - so if you're flying to Australia (23 hrs plus check-in & customs), charge it up and power it down :D When the main battery dies, the backup kicks in, and will preserve your memory (but if very low will not allow PDA boot up) - this is the time to find a power outlet/PC with USB ! I hope this makes sense!
Guest andysalmon Posted March 20, 2005 Report Posted March 20, 2005 Thanks guys, as I suspected. Strange as my P900 has two combined devices but both are switched off. Not complaining tho- the free software so far more than compensates!
