active sync doesnt sync then disconnects from C500

Hello,

Im having a problem with Active Sync 3.8. I connect my C500 to the PC via the USB cable directly to the PC. Active sync recognises the device OK and starts to sync. It starts to try to sync the 307 contacts but stops and disconnects before it even syncs the first contact. I have to unplug and reconnect the usb cable for it to reconnect to active sync but just get the same problem again.

I tried to delete the partnership and resync but I get the same problem.

Can anyone suggest why.. Some screen shots in attached word doc

Many Thanks

Never had that problem before.

Have you tried turning off any firewall that you may have active ?

I use a wireless router but have the windows firewall in XP off all the time.

You could check the settings in the Activesync program on the smartphone and see if anything has changed in there.

Settings are normal, but I think I found a bug. It seems to work fine if I sync Calendar, Mail, Tasks.. But bombs out when I try to sync contacts.. Is there a max limit to the number of contacts you can sync???

Looking at the amount of stuff you have to sync I am guessing that you have recently updated your phone. When doing this I am also guessing that you backed up your data with Orange Backup and then returned the data to the updated/new/cleared phone with the Orange Restore service. For some reason this data used to be (I am guessing still is) incompatible with activesync. Once you have done it all you can do is either use Orange Backup or reset the phone and sync back from Outlook. If you lost your phone and PC at the same time, like me, it meant I had to manually type every Orange restored contact back into Outlook, reset the phone and then async.

If of course you haven't done any of this please ignore my post!

I was just about to sugest the same as Dr Who!

Orange know of the bug in Orange Backup and you are "supposed" to sync your old phone to Outlook and then Sync from Outlook to the new phone.

Great innit?

Are we right in believing that is what has happened?

this has happened to me too and it's very annoying as there are two of us who use C500s and the same PC and we need to share our contacts/diary etc. At one point my phone kept dropping out having duplicatd most of the records so i've had to undupe both the phone and the PC of ten or more copies of contacts. I kind of worked out is was a problem with anyone who i had restored to my new phone from orange backup and i have now settled on not syncing my contacts just the diary and tasks etc but may have to risk the suggested route of manually checking one against the other, losing all my phone records and then syncing from the PC across to the phone - a bit scary but it should work. 8-[

Sorry Guys, been away for a few days.... Sorry I didnt finish the post

Thanks for your suggestions, this may well explain it. I have been sync'ing with Lotus Notes via a 3rd party util untill I recently left the firm and now I just want to sync with outlook. You are correct in that I use Orange Backup often and I will have restored all my contacts calendar etc from Orange backup when I got my C500.....

Bugger! Do I really have to type all these bloody contacts in manually, whats the bug isnt there a work around? :?:

Another Q: Can we get to the orange backup data directly from my PC, via the web or sommat? That way I could dump all contacts to PC clear phone and sync

Your best bet is to contact Orange tech support. They know about this bug and might be able to sugest a work arround.

Good luck.

I know this post is alot later but I had exactly the same problem having upgraded my phone to the c500 and restored data from Orange Backup and then wasn't able to sync. After seeing these posts I called Orange tech and the solution was a hard reset and set up a new sync partnership and it all worked. Advice was steer clear of Orange Backup!

Hope this helps someone else who gets stuck
