My Little Imate Jam Story

Hey everybody I just thought I'd share my experiences in buying my Imate Jam, mainly because it only cost me £69! I know it sounds hard to believe but it's the honest truth.

In January I was looking on eBay for one as I'd seen it in a mobile phone magazine and noticed most auctions were for about £350 -£ 400. Then I saw one for £50, with one catch.... it was damaged. I emailed the seller as he had cancelled the auction early and he told me that he had done so because he couldn't even get it to switch on now. Initally it had no signal and the seller had decided to try and fix it himself! :shock: ](*,) I offered him £25 & £5 p&p and he said yes. I got it a few days later and managed to switch it on, turns out it had run out of battery after all! :roll: However the touch screen didnt work so I couldnt get past the callibration screen. Also the case was damaged really badly where the guy had tried to open it with a screwdriver!

I tried to book it on with HTC online but it wouldn't let me. So I called them and got a strange woman who said she didnt know who HTC where! So in a genius moment I did a whois search on the website url and got the mobile number of a Mr Jimmy Chung (or something like that) who was the website designer, he was a little worried that I had managed to get his number but he gave me HTC's new number. I spoke to the manager but HTC in the uk dont/didnt repair the imate jam. DOH . He did however tell me the Dubai repair centre did.

So I booked it on with them and DHL picked it up (at there cost). I wrote a note with it saying I had no receipt and would pay for all repairs.

A month later (now feburary) I got an email saying that most of the repairs were covered under warranty! :D but the case wasn't and I would have to pay "aed 132.90" which is only £19!!!!! :D :D :(/

It cost me £18 in bank charges to transfer the money to them but I got an email this morning saying my Imate Jam had been fixed and would be with me this week.

So that's it basically, I'm sooo happy and cant wait to start using it. Next time you are on ebay look for a damaged one and you could get yourself a bargin, I did.

Phone = £25

Postage = £5

Repair costs = £19

Bank Charges = £18

Total = £67 (a saving of £333) :D

I've just ordered one on Vodaphone Anytime 200 for.... free, with 6 months half price line rental!

From this bunch. I've bought 3 pda's off them in the past and know they're reliable.

Expansys - Good company and eccellent Customer Service.

The price has dropped. I went to TMobile, as the cheapest on Vodaphone/Expansys was £80.

Shame the TMobile reception at home is very poor.

Yeah, I have been using Orange, with BT connection to my Ipaq H1940 for mobile email over GPRS etc but I don't get coverage in my own house so I'm looking to switch. Keeping a pay as you go orange phone for Orange wednesdays though- it'll more than pay for itself :D

yeah...sure ..... NOT!

I reckon I could put it on eBay though. Thought about it but then I's been to Dubai and back for me, feel like I owe it one so I'll keep it.

You know thats an 18 Month contract right?

It actually would be cheaper to get it on the 12 month deal.

12 month deal

68.95 + 12 x 36 = 500.95

18 Month deal

12 x 36 + 6 x 18 = 540

Although I suppose you get 6 Months more worth of free minutes on the 18 Month deal.

T Mobile is still the best tho,

4 x 11.50 + 8 x 23 = 230

I've got 6 months left on my Orange contract but I've reduced my tarrif to Anytime 30 so the net effect is I don't pay any more for the overlap period. If I want to change mobile suppliers after a year, I'm sure I can find a cheap offer again :D

I used to be on one2one/T Mobile but their reception was pretty poor and I suffered huge price rises on renewal (and crafty attempts to make me renew 3-6 months early) so I switched to orange.
