Guest dadgey Posted March 21, 2005 Report Posted March 21, 2005 Hi there, I'm thinking about getting a Orange SPV C500. All I need to know is it possible to set the phone to download email from a pop3 mailbox automatically or does it require manual intervention to do this ? I want to have the phone check my inbox say every hour for new messages, currently on my Nokia I have to actually instigate a "send and recieve" for it collect and send email. Is this the same with the SPV C500 ? Cheers Paul :D

It also has a wizard to automatically install your email settings for you and it all works wonderfully!

Does it come through like a text message and how much of the email do you see, sorry about this i'm a real novice when it comes to email on phones ! I really like this phone and think it will be better for me in the long run than a Blackberry as I don't have a exchange mailbox just POP3. Paul :D

Paul :D <{POST_SNAPBACK}> During the email setup (and in the account settings once you have configured) you can set the account to download emails in several ways: 1. What to download: Today's Messages Last 3 days of email Last 5 days of email Last 7 days of email Last 30 days of email All Messages 2. How much to Download Header only Entire message First 500 bytes First 1000 bytes First 5000 bytes If you select anything other than 'Entire Message', you are provided with a link in each email to 'Download entire message'. Doing this immediately connects to the server an downloads the message for you to view. 3. Connect automatically and check for messages: Never Every fifteen minutes Every half hour Every hour Every two hours Every six hours Once a day When you receive a message, you are alerted in a similar way to receiving a text (SMS) message. The sound in also configurable. Hope this helps.

I'm also looking at a S700 Sony Ericson on Vodafone, I know you can get email on this, any comments or views on this one ? Paul :D
Guest Looby Posted March 25, 2005 Report Posted March 25, 2005 While undoubtedly the Sony Ericsson S700 is a good phone I think the you will find the C500 Smartphone a far more sophisticated unit in all areas. It takes more time to get your head around than a standard phone but it is sure worth it. I love mine and have had no problems and I'm sure I am not the only one around. :D

I've been with Vodafone for the last few years. One thing which is plaguing me almost straight away is that the space on text messages is on the # key and not the 0 key as with the Nokia's i've always used. I tried to use the contacts wizard to copy across the info from my old phone but it kept coming up phone error. Do you know of anyway of transferring these easily as it will take me forever to re-enter all my contacts. Why am I unable to attach video messages to my sms messages one of the most basic of features with any phone these days ? Also any other handy tips for using the phone ? Cheers Paul :D Edited March 25, 2005 by dadgey
Guest Looby Posted March 26, 2005 Report Posted March 26, 2005 I think the easiest way to transfer your contacts is via infra red beam( which on the C500 is also bluetooth). I'm not sure about the video attachment in MMS as I have never used this. You will have to post a new separate question for this.
Guest mcwarre Posted March 26, 2005 Report Posted March 26, 2005 Are your contacts on your pc in outlook? If so, just sync the C500 with your PC. Always worthwhile doing this as your pc then acts as a backup for your contacts.
