ActiveSync over network?

Right can someone either give me some help with this or shoot me down and say i'm being stupid :D

Right I have a C500, a desktop pc and a laptop. I primarily use the laptop pc but it is a pain of when i come home of and having to check my mail in outlook on the laptop or copying the pst file (painfully slow) to the desktop PC.

I had tried using a usb key to store the files on which worked well as i could quickly switch between pc's but i'm affraid of snapping it off as i am using a tablet PC now rather than a normal laptop. I also am getting 4Mb broadband in June and want to try Remote Desktop or VPN to my home PC from Uni and access outlook from home - this in itself shouldn't be a problem. If you do see a problem with this then feel free to burst my bubble. :D

What i want to know really is: is it possible to sync my C500 with data stored on my Desktop PC from Uni through my laptop either via VPN or by Remote Desktop? I've read that it is possible over GPRS but i don't fancy the bill at the end of the month from Orange :D
