I just recieved a replacement c500 from Orange. The first phone had this option, the silver one they have just sent to me has this option removed. Asked Orange about it and they are getting back to me. They don`t seem to know alot about the Spv c500.

On my C500 it allows me to select any stored 3GP videos for MMS but not the MP4 videos. Not sure why.

Well it's the first time i've ever been to Orange for a mobile phone, i've been with Vodafone for quite some time. It's all very nice calling your staff "Phone Trainers" but from my experience so far nobody in the shop or on the Orange sales line knows a great deal about the C500.

The Insert Recording option on my phone is "greyed" out, I can't see what i'm doing wrong with regard to this.

Can I have a simple step by step guide to sending a video message on this phone ?

Cheers

1. Open the camera go to menu and then option 1 - select to record a mms video.

2. Shoot the video.

3. Go to menu - send - via mms.

4. mms message appears, send it to who ever you like. (If it's a saucy vid of your ladyfriend post in the forum  - Joke before somone chucks me off the forum!)

Just a thought - when the C500 first came out, you couldn't send a video clip by MMS. Then they released the upgraded ROM and you could. Is it worth checking whether your new silver phone has the upgraded ROM?

As the silver C500 was initially only available to a select few, they could still be clearing out brand new, un-upgraded phones?

I don't have a silver one, I wasn't signing up for an extra 5 quid premium service a month. How do I check the ROM version ? And whats the latest one ?

Cheers

OOpps! The person with the silver C500 was the third post down, not the original person! Pay more attention before pressing the button Stu! #-o

Go into Settings, then 5 About. The version number on my (after ROM update) is 4.21.1088 (Build 14217)

If yours shows something different, go onto:

http://web.orange.co.uk/yourphone/spvc500/...l?id=sm_1137635

and follow the links for the latest Orange ROM.

Hi there

What you say is the only bit of common sense I have heard since I got the C500. I have checked and I think the info is ROM update versions : operator 4.1.1.0 or is it version 4.21.1088(Build 14132). Does this mean I need to upgrade and if so does this mean a whole lot of hassle. (Looks alittle complicated) Orange are still getting back to me but as you say sounds like old stock. Also, since you seem like a man of experience how do I keep the light on the screen for longer than two seconds after I touch a key.

Hope I`m not being a bit Blonde here.

Ta.

Just checked, and my Operator shows as 4.1.1.4, so I think it's update time!

It's not too much of a hassle at all to flash a new ROM. If you try to get one for a different type of Typhoon phone (e.g. an SMT5600 ROM onto an Orange C500) then it's a problem, but just replacing a C500 ROM with a newer one is easy enough.

This WILL remove all your contacts and any programs, ringtones, home screens or anything else you've added. Make sure all your contacts are backed up (eg. stored on Outlook, or backed up using the Orange's over-the-air backup service thingy), and make sure you've got copies of the programs, ringtones and so on so you can put them back on afterwards.

Download the new ROM from the site linked on my last post (it's a little big - about 20Mb-ish from memory). Then charge the phone up to about maximum (so long as it's showing four bars that should be fine). Now plug the phone into the USB port on the PC with the cable it came with, and run the program on the PC that you downloaded.

It'll wipe your phone and replace the Windows software with the newer one. I think it did a percentage complete countdown, but it may not have done - I did it a while ago.

When you first switch the phone on, it may take quite a while to actually start up. This is normal, and is just the phone setting up all the programs it needs - it'll only happen first time you turn it on after a ROM update or hard reset.

Hopefully that covers everything, but short version is that ROM updates aren't complicated. Course, it can be long-winded to get the phone back to the nicely modified one you've got now, but ce la vie I'm afraid! :D

Good luck, and don't worry about the blonde moments - I still make an arse of myself regularly for everyone to laugh at on the forum! :cheesy:

hmmm i'm now lost because Confused Stu says :-

Just checked, and my Operator shows as 4.1.1.4, so I think it's update time!
and the Orange website says :-

If your version is Operator version: 4.1.1.4 . then you already have the latest software.

Can someone advise ?

Sorry - my bad!

I meant MY operator version was showing as 4.1.1.4 - where the last person to post said theirs showed 4.1.1.0, so I meant it was update time for them, not for me.

Sorry, wouldn't like to make anything simple, you know?!? #-o
